"On average, nine out of 10 people in permanent housing remain housed after one year, a success rate Shimkhada attributes to the wraparound services and the program’s philosophy of doing “whatever it takes for as long as it takes” to get and keep people housed..." Recently, the impact of post-COVID funding, heightened participant needs, all combined with a lack of affordable housing, increased need for mental health services, and individuals battling with substance use disorder - a "perfect storm" is happening. The result is there is a higher demand for support and programming, a gap in funding to address these community needs, and numerous agencies that couldn't sustain their missions for various reasons. Caroline Hood, RS EDEN President & CEO has written a guest commentary in the Star Tribune highlighting the current non-profit landscape and some of the current challenges that RS EDEN and other non-profits are faced with. #nonprofit #housing #recovery #mentalhealth

"Voluntary & Community Groups are part of the solution, not the problem." Please sign this petition and be one of the 800 people to help support and save our vital voluntary and community services. Derbyshire County Council is proposing cuts to all it's discretionary funding. This means that key local charities and community organisations which support the health and wellbeing of residents are in danger of closure. At risk are services supporting mental health provision, befriending and lunch clubs, day centres, funding for community groups and important support for charities. Thousands of people who live life with poor physical and mental health, learning difficulties, loneliness and isolation will be left without vital support. Particularly affected will be older people, marginalised communities and the most vulnerable in our society. Derbyshire Voluntary Action are asking the Council to debate in full any proposed cuts to discretionary funding and consider the significant impact to communities if services are reduced. Please sign the petition to voice your concern for the lives of our neighbours. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION - let's show we care! Using the link below: https://lnkd.in/gWb_jYhb We think is it important that a discussion takes place regarding the catastrophic affects to our communities and services if these cuts happen. If this petition receives 800 signatures this should mean: The council will have to debate about the decision to cut funding Refer the petition to the relevant Cabinet Member or Full Council for consideration "The VCSE are part of the solution, not the problem." Imagine designing an event, social activity or service for a whole county, and deliberately excluding almost half of the population? 🤔 Welcome to Dorset, UK 🇬🇧 Is this the most unequal county in the whole of the UK? Virtually all 'Dorset wide' services, events, social activities, festivals etc are in the larger towns in the south of the county, Dorchester, Bournemouth or Poole. None of these southern towns are easily accessible from rural areas, in fact from where we are based, in Shaftesbury, it's a 3 to 4 hour journey to Bournemouth via multiple buses...that's each way! 46% of Dorset's population live in rural communities. The UK average is around 20%....so Dorset, where we are based is quite significantly unequal when it comes to accessing even basic essential support, or social activities! But this is not just a Dorset issue...it's a major problem for rural residents right across the UK! People living rurally face huge challenges and barriers to accessing support, facilities, events or services vs their urban counterparts. Why is that a problem? Because they feel excluded, isolated, unsupported, unseen, unheard and most of all they feel unimportant. It's no surprise then, that those living rurally are at higher risk of suicide. How is this acceptable? We are working together with Centre for Mental Health because we want to ensure there is national accountability! Our 'Rurally Inclusive Accreditation' scheme, will help make sure that those living rurally have equitable access to essential support services, they desperately need, and deserve. Enough is enough. 1 in 5 people live in rural areas and they are suffering! We cannot do this alone. Rural Mental Health Matters is the only organisation that represents the rural voice for England and Wales, yet as a social enterprise we receive NO funding! You can help us by donating via this link:https://lnkd.in/ekFBNGHH As well as the accreditation, we want to build rural wellbeing community centres and launch UK wide WOW vehicles, mobile outreach...WOW stands for Wellbeing On Wheels!

Care leavers are 9 times more likely to face being homeless according to the charity, Become. To prevent this happening to our young people, we work closely with them and their foster carers to prepare them for independent living - practically and emotionally. We also advocate for the best possible support when they are ready to move on, usually from continuing care. #careleaver #keepthepromise #continuingcare https://lnkd.in/ePnPsppN

With Adult Social Care in crisis this is such an important article, raising key questions for Local and National Government.
Do you know the difference between profit making care operators, and charitable/not for profit ones? If I said 'private equity owned' does that mean anything to you? Imagine working in an adult's care home, in supported living or a children's residential home. Utility costs are going up but councils are struggling to increase fees enough to meet your costs. How would a company that is basically a vehicle to make a return on investment respond to this? How would a charity respond? Whose interests come first? The current backlash against profit making and private equity owned care in the USA tells a story. If your loved one needed care, would you think to check who owns the facility you're visiting? Last year the Observer published their findings that the number of children's residential homes backed by investment companies had more than doubled in 5 years. The rise in older people's care and care for people with disabilities is similar. The Centre for Health and the Public Interest has an interesting view on the fortune that investors can make in care of vulnerable people. #carehomes #privateequity https://lnkd.in/eHJb58vh

🌈 On #internationalwomensday2024 we bring to you a story of #womenempowerment and grit and gumption, delivered through our Community Benefit Fund initiative which is a core part of our #socialvalue strategy at LHC. With support from the LHC #CommunityBenefitFund, from April 2023 to December 2023, Hillingdon Women's Centre delivered three Pathways to Healing cohorts to support #women affected by #domesticabuse and help them improve their self-esteem and confidence, reduce isolation, and improve overall well-being. The objective was to give them a safe environment to learn, share, and grow. This was not therapy or counselling, but to give them essential core #knowledge and understanding to develop the confidence they need to improve their lives. Read the full story below ⬇ In each region, LHC members have the opportunity to create and distribute a Community Benefit Fund generated from the #rebate they receive if they spend over a specified threshold on LHC #frameworks. Further, an independent community benefit agency is also appointed to work with the members to find a local charity partner. For London and the Southeast, LHC works closely with 'Locality'- the specialist community support network. Now in its fifth year, the fund has invested just short of £425,000 across 74 #community projects, targeting a diverse range of needs. ➡ To learn more, read our brand new social value strategy publication here: - https://lnkd.in/evRMi_GD Dave Ahlquist Ethan James Justin Costello George Stevens Jennifer Castle Clive Feeney Boby Singh Paul Smith Eres Tedla Tekeste Paige Kent Annie Ngemi https://lnkd.in/eNEaNS_K

👏👏👏 for Urban Pathways Total Wellness Program in helping our consumers live healthier lives AND reducing visits to the ER and 911 calls! A few things to highlight: 💡 The work is not done when someone has a roof over their heads and this is just one of the many ways Urban Pathways helps our consumers on their path to independent living. 💡 Nonprofits can be a powerful source of innovation filling an experimentation gap that the government and for-profit sector aren't ready to address but more often than not, the funding for these new projects comes from private donations so... 💡 ...If you give, please consider using your dollars to fund not just day-to-day work but also new (even unproven) programs so we can validate new solutions for systemic change. Ans if you're looking for some inspiration, take 3 minutes to read this Gothamist article on the program and the people impacted. Thank you Karen Yi for shining a light on our work! https://lnkd.in/gMzZWWCn #endhomelessness #totalwellness #innovation
