For our second post on the upcoming Global #TBO Symposium (https://lnkd.in/gQWibYhJ), we've been thinking about the interoperability aspects of taking TBO global for our part in the discussion. Our research and preparation has highlighted some intriguing reinforcement of the silo principle in the aviation industry. Many speakers at industry conferences have joked about silos in their presentations about the industry for years—we've been in that group. But, from what we've pieced together, it seems the silo principle is alive and well—implying interoperability might be the least of the issues needing to be overcome to bring #TBO to fruition and then to globalise it. Our 2021 video on the subject (https://lnkd.in/gN_zhVAH) said #TBO is inevitable. Indeed, it is crucial. We also noted in the video that the industry needed to decide what #TBO "really really is" (and by implication, what it isn't) "really, really fast." A few missed the memo. Some folks are very clear about their (no, it's not a typo) definition of #TBO. That single word underscores the issue of globalisation and any significant, harmonised implementation. For all the work since 2005, the definition is still unresolved for some surprising groups of people. Success may turn on something other than technical facets of interoperability. Industry leadership, perhaps? It'll be a fun discussion, for sure. It's time to move from concept to outcome. We look forward to contributing to the symposium's success and helping to resolve the problem of the definition for some.
