The Science Behind the Whinny: Why Equine Facilitation Works Horses are more than just majestic creatures. They're biofeedback experts! Equine facilitation leverages horses' sensitivity to human emotions to create a powerful learning experience. Here's the science: * Mirroring: Horses reflect our emotions & body language, providing immediate & non-judgmental feedback. * Biofeedback: By interacting with horses, we become more aware of our physiological responses to stress & pressure. * Safe Space: The non-threatening environment allows managers to practice self-awareness & develop coping mechanisms. #Bedfordshire ##smallbusiness #rural #equinefacilitation #leadershipdevelopment #scienceoflearning

The 3Fs are a simple, yet highly impactful, way of improving welfare for horses living in a stabled/livery situation, and are particularly effective in managing and minimizing problem behaviours commonly found in these types of living situation a.k.a 'stable vices'. Not only are these three elements key to fulfilling basic equine needs, but they will make management, training, and general interactions with the horse much safer and more productive for owners, trainers, vets and handlers. I have seen first-hand the effect this can have on a 'problem' horse. Once you move the animal from an unsuitable environment into a situation where they have the ability to perform species-specific social, locamotive, and feeding behaviours, you should have a horse that is mentally and physically stable and productive.
What are the 3Fs for horses? 🐴 In the latest episode of our 'Horses Explained' series, our host Jordan catches up with Equine Psychology Specialist, Sharon Smith, who explains what the 3Fs stand for, why they are an essential part of managing horses and providing horses with positive experiences, how the 3Fs can be provided to horses and key considerations to make sure horses individual needs are met.
