Earlier this year, CLG Europe member Ball Corporation partnered with Planet League and Arsenal F.C to host the Green Gooners Cup. 7600 people across 164 countries participated and fans scored over 55,900 Green Goals by: 🥫Using aluminum cans. ♻️Purchasing recycled items. 🗑️ Recycling on the go. The campaign kicked off on March 18th which marked the Global Recycling Day. ♻️ 🗨 According to Michael Kelley, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Ball Corporation: 'the post-event survey results indicated the campaign was massively successful. “Climate change is the single biggest threat facing both us and the planet – we’re the first generation to feel its impact, and we’re the last generation who can do something about it” Those are the opening lines to Sport England’s online video explaining “Every Move” (Every Move | Sport England's Environmental Sustainability Strategy (youtube.com) – which is Sport England’s sustainability strategy aimed at bringing about lasting change across the sport and physical activity sector. It’s a bold strategy with high ambitions, seeking to ensure everyone has equal access to green and blue space and that physical activity is sustainably embedded into our daily lives. As a sports lover and someone who has become increasingly aware of the environmental impact our sport is having, I have started questioning how sustainable sport is at the highest level. There are many organisations and clubs who are starting to realise the impact they are having and are making changes. One example of this is #ManchesterCity and their plans to be become net zero.
