In the current mess that is the California cannabis market, the original economic model of the buyers club may offer some relief. Buyer's clubs allow for a close relationship between brands and consumers, and provide a reliable source of revenue based on a pull from known demand rather than the current model of pushing product to market while guessing at demand. Buyers clubs were instrumental in the early days of California's legalization, such as Dennis Peron's club that served as a model to inspire Prop 215. We think it's time to revisit this model as a potential option for market stabilization. What do you think? Would you buy from or sell to such a club? #californiacannabis #cannabisindustry #respecttheorigins

Coming out of NECANN - it was great to see so many smaller brands as winners in the NECANN Cup. But I have very mixed feelings about "Highest THC Flower" category. No dis-respect to the brands who participated or those who won (I actually don't even remember who it was)... And I totally get brands trying to build awareness - in any way, shape, or form. So this ISN'T a dig on the brands... There's no getting around the fact that today's dispensary consumers ARE searching based on THC % - so you kinda have to play the game. And there are many ways to do that - thru - pheno hunting / strain selection (👍 ) - reducing moisture content (👎 ) - adding kief without disclosing it (👎 ) - lab shopping (👎) I'm sure there are more options - but alot of them DON'T advance the industry. In fact, they take us backwards. You may get a short-term boost in sales - but building a brand takes delivering on your promise. Do consumer REALLY want to numb their faces? Or are they looking for a nice, subtle & body high - that makes them giddy, relaxed or inquisitive / creative? I'd argue the latter - which is more about the terps, all the cannabinoids, the entourage effect. If your brand is ONLY about potency - that's a short term win (if any win at all) and consumers that choose you once may not get what they're looking for and will leave you when someone else is willing to do whatever it takes to beat you by 0.1% THC - it's unsustainable. We're not even operating in MA, or New England for that matter... but in CA / NY, Woodstock Heritage Strains is focused on Infused Flower - yes, high potency (playing the game) - but coupled with full spectrum concentrates that deliver all the good entouragey effects - or Live Resin / Rosin for the same reasons... Back to NECANN Cup - I'd just like to see the industry get rid of this award category - it's a never ending, never winning game. So yes - play the game (you have to), but DON'T stop trying to CHANGE the game.

Long Beach is taking a significant step by considering on-site cannabis consumption at events. From an economic perspective, this move could be a game-changer. It has the potential to generate substantial revenue, support local cannabis businesses, and attract tourism, all while positioning Long Beach as a leader in the industry. #cannabis #cannabisevents #longbeach #california

The best way to access legal THC anywhere in the US is probably with a hemp-based seltzer. That's what I learned reporting my latest story about beer distributors across the country taking on hemp-derived THC drinks in a bid to offset falling booze sales. Distributors are able to transport these drinks that get you high to grocery and liquor stores across the country because the psychoactive ingredient is derived from hemp plants -- the weaker cousin of high-potency cannabis -- which was legalized in the 2018 Farm Bill. Now, the alcohol and hemp industries are joining forces to have regulations put in place that will enshrine hemp-based drinks in law. That concerns some dispensary-based cannabis companies that worry the new products, which appeal to a mass market, will steal their precious market share while their businesses continue to be hamstrung by tight federal regulations. Lobbying dollars are being thrown at the problem from both sides now. Meanwhile, the market has been booming -- its estimated to be worth $180 million annually in Minnesota alone -- but it could be snuffed out if the rules of the Farm Bill are changed, or more states follow Connecticut and New York in heavily regulating the space. I talked to a lot of people involved on all sides of this story and I could talk about it all day at this point.

In the cannabis space, collaboration is more beneficial than competition, according to several CEOs. Will Breakell, the founder of Blazy Susan, launched a collaboration with the Grateful Dead in November 2023 - and the line of rolling papers, ashtrays, and cannabis grinders has sold over 1 million dollars of smoking accessories. Brands on the East Coast are even partnering with others in the cannabis space. Based in Lafayette, New York, Ayrloom has lent out its large extraction and processing facilities to farmers. Thanks to their efforts, Ayrloom now has a network of trusted growers to bring branded flowers to dispensaries across NY. Their ultimate collaboration, however, was partnering with seven other New York processing facilities to establish the Empire Cannabis Manufacturer's Alliance - which advocates their priorities to lawmakers and regulatory bodies. While collaboration has the power to increase your bottom line, working with others in the industry has the power to make a difference. Prohibition 2.0 or the Drug War on Marijauna 2.0 is now being led by people like #GovernorNewsome of California and the lobbyists who puppeteer him. “while I appreciate the author’s intent to support small and equity cannabis cultivators, I am concerned that the bill’s broad eligibility, which extends to the vast majority of licensed cultivators, would undermine the existing retail licensing framework and place significant strain on the Department of Cannabis Control’s ability to regulate and enforce compliance.” It’s amazing how far from the end of prohibition we truly are. This nonsensical notion that the cannabis supply chain needs to be modeled in a certain way or regulated for anything other than testing safety is laughable. Designing a market structure is the obsession of a flawed mindset. The only question that should be asked is if it gets the ball 🏈 closer to freedoms end zone. Even if your financial model doesn’t benefit from freedom your soul will! #cannabis #marijuana

#cannabis is all about the #experience The CCTA: Canadian Cannabis Tourism Alliance is advocating for consumption allowances here in #Canada. While the smoke-free acts are limiting the possibility of a smoking lounge we are making great headway towards beverage and edible allowances and service standards, and allowances for outdoor use in public settings. Step by step we are moving forward! Come help us in the fight. The more voices we have the more we can affect positive change. https://lnkd.in/g6Ua4vCh
