A new report from IPPR and The Difference reveals suspensions and exclusions across the education sector in England are predicted to have risen over 20% over the last year compared to the previous. The report found that disadvantaged students who were eligible for free school meals are nearly five times more likely to be permanently excluded and four times more likely to be suspended than their peers. Elise Temple, Director of Education at Nacro said: “At Nacro we see young people come to us at 16 after a disrupted education career with numerous suspensions and exclusions, the impact on their learning and self-confidence can be devastating and the knock-on effect into adult life has wide-ranging and long-lasting consequences.” Read more at bit.ly/47eeGTm

Even in armed conflict, children's right to education should be protected. Education isn't only a fundamental human right it is also a multiplier of other rights. It provides a foundation for development, peace and prosperity for all. According to the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack, the number of children, young people, teachers and academics injured from attacks in armed conflict has soared exponentially. Posing serious threats to the enjoyment of this important human right. Schools continue to be occupied and bombed by warring factions and children end-up getting abducted and recruited on their way to school. However there are international legal frameworks that provide a variety of solutions but there's a knowledge gap in implementing these frameworks. The MOOC on Children's Right to Education in Armed Conflict is a result-oriented move aimed at filling the knowledge gap and mobilising more people and resources to protect the fundamental right to education during armed conflict. The experience and knowledge acquired is worth the effort put in.
