The recent enactment of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) on April 13, 2024, marks a significant milestone in the European Union's push towards a more robust and unified electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. As nations scramble to align with this new framework, both challenges and opportunities arise for Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and Mobility Service Providers (MSPs).

Great to see the infrastructure for charging HGVs developing. This is what is needed to kickstart the decarbonisation of HGVs which contribute a significant proportion of the UK’s CO2 emissions.

"If we can get 20% of our entire peak demand to be flexible by 2030 across the country...that would save ratepayers $10 billion per year. So overall, VPPs represent a paradigm shift from only being able to flex supply—which is how we currently run our grid—to also being able to flex demand."
