🏗 A shout-out to all companies with Field Engineers! An encouragement for companies that don't, to start that role & training. & a reminder to the industry that we will NOT train the amount of future Supers we need without the role. 🏗 Field Engineers are crucial. How do you train future Supers? With the role of FE. How ensure we progress as construction managers? With the role of FE. How do we better support trades and the Craft? With the role of FE. How can we increase quality and safety onsite? With the role of FE. How can we get back to basics as an industry? With the role of FE. How to we transition Craft to management? With the role of FE. This is just how it is done. No technology, expert, method, approach, or other entity is coming to save us. We are on our own. If we want to improve construction we will go back to the basics. The basics of training, the basics of shaping mindsets, and the basics of being a builder. "The role of Super and PM are NOT builder training positions. You need to be a builder to do them well, but you do not practice building in those positions. You practice building in the Craft and as a Field Engineer." So, if we want to change our industry for the better: ➡ Companies will embrace this position. ➡ We will build it into our GCs. ➡ We will create training programs for that position and allow them to do layout and lift drawings even if we do not have self-perform. ➡ We will start making future Supers instead of poaching and hoping someone else trained our Supers. It is time to get back to the basics with this role. Love, Jason

They can learn software, coordinate with IT and VDC team, and train workers on new tools for increased efficiency and precision. Advocate for Innovation: Through their hands-on experience, Field Engineers can gather insights on where traditional construction methods might be improved. These insights can trigger innovation on projects and lead to long-term efficiency gains for the company. Boosting Project Profitability: By resolving problems proactively, promoting safety/quality, and fostering collaboration, Field Engineers ultimately contribute to more successful projects. This impacts the overall profitability and reputation of construction companies. Overall: It's important to see the Field Engineer role not just as filling an immediate need, but as a long-term investment. Investing in Field Engineers is investing in the future of your construction business. They train skilled staff, drive efficiency, boost innovation, and promote a culture of continuous of improvement.

Before you can sit at the table of outstanding construction engineers: Your theoretical knowledge will undergo testing. Your practical construction knowledge will undergo testing. Your ability to address instant construction issues on the spot will be tested. Before you can sit at the table of outstanding construction engineers: Your ability to insist on what is good and stand by it on site will be tested and proven. Your strength and ruggedity will be tested and proven. Your integrity will be tested from all angles and proven. Your diligence to adhere to fundamental basics will be tested and proven. Your endurance when things seem challenging will be tested and proven. Your consistency in doing what is right will be tested and proven. Your commitment to the real construction practical process will be tested and proven. Your patience to get it right on site will be tested and proven. Your ability to work with different kinds of people on site will also be tested. You cannot just assume, profess, or proclaim these things in your heart or your words and not expect real practical construction circumstances to test and prove them. It is through these tests that your claims are revealed if you are truly capable. Many claim and believe they possess these abilities in their CVs but fail woefully when it is time for them to be proven. Strive to acquire and demonstrate these abilities because it is only when proven that you can truly sit at the table of men, not when merely claiming to possess them. 🫶🏾👷🏾♂️

Project Site Visits? I'm there! Last week, I had the privilege of witnessing the remarkable progress of one of my projects during a site visit. Observing the detailed installation of site civil utilities and structural foundations firsthand served as a powerful reminder of the intricate yet vital work of any building construction project. These visits offer more than just progress updates. Engaging in on-site discussions with contractors and engineers provided a valuable opportunity to pinpoint issues and offer immediate solutions, ultimately saving precious time and resources. To all the aspiring project managers out there: Never underestimate the significance of a site visit! It's where project plans come to life, challenges are identified early on, and the meticulous planning and execution of labor, material logistics, equipment installation, and worker safety truly unfold.
