We had a great time last week sampling at the University of Pikeville Board of Trustees dinner! They are a true staple of our community here in Pikeville and we were delighted to be able to show off some of our Coal Mine Aged Kentucky Bourbon. Photo credits to the legend Dusty Layne

Can Passive House be used by communities to combat gentrification and displacement? Is there such a things as "Passive House from Below?" Here is a talk I delivered last year about how the Montopolis CDC goes well beyond the facile "affordable housing" discourse to include more comprehensive discussion about high-level affordable housing construction and operation, as well as the political importance of community control. https://lnkd.in/gMK9ZiMk

💧Water, Legacy, and the Power of Community: The Story of Seneca Village and Tanner’s Spring at Central Park ⛲️🌳 NYC What does water represent to a community? For the residents of Seneca Village in the early 1800s, it was far more than a resource—it symbolised survival, freedom, and growth. Established by free African Americans escaping the harsh realities of lower Manhattan, Seneca Village blossomed into a thriving community, built on resilience and hope. Homes, schools, churches—places that fostered unity and belonging in a city that often excluded them. By 1880, the story shifted to Tanner’s Spring. Dr Henry Samuel Tanner’s famous 40-day fast, sustained solely by the spring’s “pure” water, captivated the nation 🇺🇸 The spring became synonymous with health and wellbeing drawing people to its life-giving promise. These histories pose a profound question: How does water shape not only the land but also the identities and futures of those who gather around it? #WaterAndCommunity #SenecaVillage #CentralPark #tannersspring #hydratetheimagination #findaspring

In 2018, we started producing Community Profiles for all 171 school districts in Kentucky. The objective was, and still is, to get key data into the hands of community members as a way to encourage them to be part of the solution to improving education outcomes. With data, communities could be part of designing solutions to the unique needs of families and students locally. This week we released the 4th edition - now called Groundswell Community Profiles. They include data along the "path to a larger life", coupled with trend data and a snapshot of demographic differences, and socioeconomic information to contextualize the environment. It's a brief 4-page snapshot. The Groundswell Community Profiles are meant to be used as a starting point to spur larger conversations and action. When we bring communities to the table, in hyper-local settings, with shared aspirations, innovative solutions will be found. We look forward to amplifying, elevating, and networking those innovations all across Kentucky - building a #GroundswellKY one community at a time. The 2024 Groundswell Community Profiles, which provide an overview of the state of education in each Kentucky school district, are available now! To support community engagement in education, the Prichard Committee publishes Groundswell Community Profiles to put local data on educational progress directly in the hands of Kentuckians like you.
