Today, we honor those who have served and sacrificed for our country. We’re also reflecting on how data can help support veterans long after their service ends. Programs like REACH VET are using data to identify veterans who may be at risk of mental health challenges, providing proactive support to those who need it most. REACH VET uses predictive analytics to find veterans at high risk for suicide, ensuring that VA healthcare providers reach out with care and resources before a crisis occurs. This program shows the positive role of data equity. Let’s thank our veterans and continue to support data-driven initiatives that ensure they receive the care, respect, and resources they need...not just today, but every day. Join us as we count down to Data Equity Day on November 15th. #Veterans #VeteransDay #DataEquity #DataSovereignty #DataDiplomacy #aLocal

There are on average more than 17 veteran suicides per day in the United States. This #SuicidePreventionMonth, we want to remind veterans that help is available. Veterans experiencing a suicidal crisis can receive emergency mental health care at a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or non-VA facility – at no cost to the veteran – thanks to the Veterans Comprehensive Prevention, Access to Care, and Treatment (COMPACT) Act of 2020. Since January 2023, Tria Federal’s Legislative Support team has played a key role in helping VHA’s Revenue Operations (RO) program office comply with the intent of the COMPACT Act. “Our aim is to ensure that these sections of legislation, which are intended to ease the financial burden for veterans in crisis, can be properly operationalized by RO so that their staff can efficiently cancel veterans’ copays,” said Madeline Cohen, a Tria consultant. Yesterday, the RAND released the Report from the Military and Veteran Caregivers study commissioned by the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. It is arduous to complete such an endeavor. Congratulations to Rajeev Ramchand for his leadership and continued support of this important work in the caregiver space. The report shows many new statistics, but two that are directly related to my research, 1) Suicide ideation and 2) Inclusion of caregivers in healthcare teams. There is so much more work to do. The new report can be found at, https://lnkd.in/gbphJdz4

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is enhancing its AI-powered suicide prevention tool, REACH VET, to better address the unique experiences of women veterans, including adding military sexual trauma (MST) and intimate partner violence as risk factors. This move comes after concerns raised by the Disabled American Veterans and a joint investigation by The Fuller Project, Military Times, and Military.com, which highlighted how the current model prioritizes male veterans and fails to account for critical factors affecting women. VA’s update, planned for early 2025, will incorporate additional variables such as medical conditions specific to women, aiming to make the tool more equitable and effective. The changes follow data showing significant increases in suicide rates among women veterans, with VA’s 2023 report revealing a 24.1% rise from 2020 to 2021. Lawmakers, including Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chair Jon Tester, have introduced legislation requiring the VA to include gender-specific risk factors in REACH VET. As women veterans become the fastest-growing demographic, these adjustments will ensure that VA’s mental health services are more inclusive, providing tailored support to all veterans at risk. #veterans #mentalhealth #suicideprevention #ai #womenveterans #militarysexualtrauma #veteransaffairs #reachvet #mentalhealthcare #veteransupport Source- https://lnkd.in/gUuj3PUJ

These injuries cannot be outwardly seen like a bruise or wound, but their impact on a person can be life altering. Here’s a snippet of our interview with industry expert, Glenn Cowan, a #military #veteran and Founder of ONE9, describing how living with a brain injury can be like a “𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧.” #brainhealth #stroke #disabilityawareness #science #innovation #healthcare #health #wellness #video #production #DMGProductions American Red Cross
