This is the goal for our #artificialgeneralintelligence prototype 🌱⏳🌳 The future has to be designed and constructed to be brought into reality ✅ Waiting for it to happen without doing anything but wasting time complaining, is not the answer ❌ I remember years ago in 2017.. we had an idea, that if we could build the Strongest and most Advanced #artificialintelligence, we would be able to accelerate the technological development of our civilization. But we also had to be realistic 📝 we knew that most of the technological requirements simply did not readily exist at that time to make an AI like that possible. Instead of just giving up and waiting for someone many generations later, or by art of magic, maybe building it, we had to figure it out ourselves now. So that’s what we did.. we started small by understanding what we needed to accomplish to build an AI like the one we described, made the appropriate designs and plans, steadily following an agenda while continuing to grow to the point where we can confidently say that creating Full #ai is possible. Understanding AI It is very clear when I talk to people all around the world about AI that most of humanity is falling far behind in understanding exactly what AI is & what it means to them & to be honest while the first part is easy, the second is difficult as no one can foresee the future with any degree of clarity. Many people are simply absorbing the hype & fear put out somewhat irresponsibly by AI companies, mainstream media & prognosticators alike (mea culpa) & most people have very little understanding of what the tech really is underneath the hood. This is further exasperated by the Sam Altmans of the world who are generating an incredible amount of new AI tech & products at a blistering pace further driving the hype & the fear cycle. This is creating a have & have not chasm between tech elites who build AI & everyone else in both money & knowledge as a 'Great AI Divide'. Of course one of the problems is that everyone is on different pathways with different timelines, knowledge & even interests & curiosity about AI. This runs from deep questions about transformer architectures to the basic simplistic ones like how will generative AI impact my job & career. Over the next year, I will be giving a series of informal Q&A style talks on AI from narrow AI & basic neural nets all the way to generative AI, AGI & Superintelligence in a completely unprepared & unscripted way so that each audience controls the content. It will be an opportunity for people to get out, turn off their phones & decompress for a bit WITH EACH OTHER IN PERSON like we all once did before social media took over. These casual informal chats are not designed to make you an AI superexpert but instead they are just a relaxed informal way for everyday people to ask questions about AI from what is AI to how Superintelligent, generalizing, expert, AI agents will impact our future & everything in between as well as a peek under the hood & into the future of advanced AI designs & architecture. If you work for OpenAI or have a PhD in math, this is NOT the talk for you. Think of it as a relaxing & informal chat about AI, what it is, what it will be & what it will mean to you as much as one can foretell the future. The goal is to help bring humanity up to speed on AI in a way that the people want, not the way the tech builders in Silicon Valley think it should go. We need to talk about AI It seems clear now that a combination of fancy techniques, a great deal of fine tuning and human intervention, a text generating AI can really appear to be smart and capable. There will be many applications for this generative text, speech and image technology in the near future. This in combination with new advances in speech synthesis and image generation has made me feel like we have been airdropped AI technology from 100 years in the future, without a guidebook. It feels like there is a lot of hype, misinformation, and genuine misunderstanding. Some of the examples of what is can do are astounding. And its ubiquity in such a short amount of time is almost unfathomable. I'll bet that everyone reading this has read at least 1 AI generated Text and seen 1 AI generated photo. And I'll bet a good portion of you didn't even know it was AI generated. Thats amazing! I predict that soon if not already, there will be more AI generated text, and AI generated images than there are real ones. And Soon after that it will be a 10-1 and a 100-1 ratio of fake to real. The world has changed forever. I liken this time to the time at the start of the pandemic, and this AI proliferation as the pandemic and its variants. It is forcing executives to adapt to a new way of working. They and the workers are scared of what the AIs can do, and they are rushing to figure out how to manage it. Things that were unthinkable before, such as widespread work from home or implementing an expensive AI program seem to be a requirement today. So what will happen next? The disruption will continue for some time, and the mania in the media and business world will continue. Strong camps will develop on either side, claiming that AI will have not impact or that AI will soon obsolete all jobs. There will be people claiming that AI is inappropriate at work, and others that insist that forgoing an AI-enhance workforce is a dumb and costly business decision, akin to riding a horse and buggy in the era of the car. But in the end, the world will not go back to the way it was. AI is here to stay. They say AI is the new electricity. But I'll say this Generative AI is the new atom bomb. A scary, world-altering tech-demo of the power of meticulous research program and an unlimited development budget. But once we pick our jaws up off the floor and stop being scared, the real work will begin. That is the work of harnessing this technology for legitimate useful purposes. Nuclear powerplants were created from the research that went into the creation of the atom bomb. So the same will happen now with AI. These generative AI apps have made their impact. And while some people will focus on the flash of the blast, others will work on applications of this technology that will change the world for the better. And thanks to the awe-inspiring tech-demo, the public will be primed to take AI seriously in a way it was not before. Lets keep the conversation going below.

AI, Intimacy, and Transcendence For decades, the tech industry has distilled rich, real-world experiences into quantifiable data—clicks, views, and time spent—which are then neatly categorized into rows and columns so that interactions can be used for profit. This approach has undoubtedly boosted the economy but at the cost of stripping the context and meaning from our online behaviors. Machines can store every transaction, yet they fail to capture the 'why' behind our actions. Why choose a song? Sometimes it's about mood or company, or even to block out an earworm from a morning commute. These nuances matter because they represent the true value of our experiences. Context is everything—whom you're with, where you're going, and why. Machines currently lack the ability to understand this context, but generative AI, especially modern large language models, hold the promise of changing this limitation. These models can process vast amounts of unstructured data, potentially capturing some semblance of the human context embedded within. How effectively they can recreate or understand our context remains to be seen, but the potential is certainly profound. Now, I know what you're thinking. "Dave, these AI systems would have to know a lot about us—do we really want some machine poking around in our private lives?" And I get it, I do. The idea of an AI that knows me intimately—perhaps even better than my friends & family—is unnerving. But hear me out. What if, instead of just trying to sell us more stuff or keep us glued to our screens, these AI systems actually helped us understand ourselves better? What if they could nudge us towards being more mindful, more self-aware, more in tune with what really matters to us? What if AI could help us understand ourselves and our world in new and profound ways. What if AI didn’t just cater to our immediate desires, but challenged us to grow and develop as individuals and as a society. I’m not proposing that this is easy technology to create nor that tech companies will be financially incentivized to create it. But I am proposing that it might be possible. It might be possible for technology to offer a deeper, more intimate understanding of ourselves and our experiences—all through a new capability to absorb and understand the complex context of our lives. Six Stages of AI Evolution: A Framework for Understanding AI Roles and Risks Stage 1: No AI This is the stage where all tasks are performed by humans without AI assistance, using analog or non-AI digital systems. No risks are introduced since AI is not involved. To prepare for this stage, we need to focus on developing our human skills, such as empathy, communication, and critical thinking. Stage 2: AI as a tool This is the stage where AI serves as a tool that automates simple tasks under human control. It includes things like search engines, grammar-checking programs, and spam filters. This level of AI is possibly emerging narrow AI and can lead to de-skilling and reliance issues. To prepare for this stage, we need to use AI tools wisely, not blindly. We need to understand how they work, what they can and cannot do, and how to evaluate their performance. Stage 3: AI as a consultant This is the stage where AI takes on a more substantive role but is still under human initiation. Examples include language models for summarizing documents, AI in programming, and recommender systems. To prepare for this stage, we need to be critical and cautious when using AI consultants. We need to verify their sources, check their accuracy, and challenge their assumptions. Stage 4: AI as a collaborator This is the stage where AI works alongside humans as an equal partner in tasks, such as in chess-playing, social interactions with AI-generated personalities, and creative endeavors. This involves possible emerging AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) and brings risks like anthropomorphization of AI and rapid social changes. To prepare for this stage, we need to be open and respectful when interacting with AI collaborators. We need to recognize their strengths, weaknesses, and differences, and not treat them as humans or objects. Stage 5: AI as an expert This is the stage where AI leads the interaction while receiving human feedback, such as in advanced scientific research, complex decision-making, and high-stakes scenarios. To prepare for this stage, we need to be humble and adaptive when following AI experts. We need to acknowledge their superiority, authority, and autonomy, and not resist or compete with them. Stage 6: AI as an agent This is the stage where AI operates fully autonomously as an agent, represented by autonomous personal assistants that are not yet available. This level is associated with virtuoso AGI and ASI (Artificial Superintelligence), with risks including power concentration and misalignment with human values. #ai #artificialintelligence
