Here's our review of the #SalzburgWindPhilharmonic's latest #Beethoven recording: The Symphony of Fate "is performed less dramatically than what one has become accustomed to. Despite the obvious absence of strings, the orchestra’s sound is clear, yet the symphony is fully complete. This in itself requires significant musical mastery, which Conductor Hansjörg Angerer displays as his recording demonstrates absolute fidelity to the composer’s vision...The recording of the Pastoral Symphony is equally true to Beethoven’s vision." https://lnkd.in/dex3egVS

SYMPHONY NO. 1 My first full symphony, in four movements, composed from 2022-2024. The second movement is the only movement that is subtitled (as "Heubad"), and it is for divided strings. The rest of the symphony is for full orchestra, although percussion parts (aside from timpani) were deliberately not included in the work. The first movement is inspired by a number of things, with the central climax meant to represent the motion of the Zweihänder. The third movement is a scherzo, and the final movement provides closure on some of the thematic motions throughout. There was a work also known as a "Symphony" composed for wind ensemble; this has been changed to a sinfonietta, as it in its entirety was smaller in formal scope. 🎶🎂 Today, we celebrate the birthday of the legendary composer Johannes Brahms! Brahms' music has a timeless quality that continues to inspire and move audiences around the world. Did you know that it took Brahms 21 years to finish composing his first symphony and finally have it performed when he was 43 years old? He was so caught up in trying to live up to the ideal image that his friend Schumann spread back in his early 20s as a compliment, saying he was the next greatest German composer after Beethoven. This so-called compliment turned into a curse, filling him with a fear that he was not good enough and would never live up to society’s expectations. Since “being in therapy" wasn’t such a trend back then, this little story held him back for 20 years from composing and releasing any symphonies that would put him in direct competition with Beethoven. Once he was able and willing to let go of this story, his spirit was healed, and his best compositions came to life. Living in fear and self-doubt is not living at all. In a world where the pressure to conform to societal standards and the fear of not meeting expectations can hold us back from pursuing our dreams and living the best life, Brahms' journey serves as a powerful reminder that letting go of limiting beliefs and fears can lead to our greatest achievements. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9: 'Dedicated to all Mankind’: Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony — according to Frederick Stock, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra‘s second music director, in Talks About Beethoven’s Symphonies — is “dedicated to all Mankind. Embracing all phases of human emotion, monumental in scope and outline, colossal in its intellectual grasp and emotional eloquence, the Ninth stands today as the greatest of all symphonies.” Stock continues: “The Ninth is unquestionably the greatest of all symphonies not only because it is the final résumé of all of Beethoven’s achievements, colossal as they are even without the Ninth, but also because it voices the message of one who had risen beyond himself, beyond the world and the time in which he lived. The Ninth is Beethoven, the psychic and spiritual significance of his life. “In the first movement we find the bitter struggle he waged against life’s adversities, his failing health, his deafness, his loneliness. The Scherzo depicts the quest for worldly joy; the third movement, melancholy reflection, longing — resignation. The last movement, the ‘Ode to Joy,’ is dedicated to all Mankind.” “There’s something astonishing about a deaf composer choosing to open a symphony with music that reveals, like no other music before it, the very essence of sound emerging from silence,” writes CSOA scholar-in-residence and program annotator Phillip Huscher. “The famous pianissimo opening — sixteen measures with no secure sense of key or rhythm — does not so much depict the journey from darkness to light, or from chaos to order, as the birth of sound itself or the creation of a musical idea. Rhapsody In Blue Merrick Chamber Orchestra  Richard Gilley Piano  (No. 37 No. 38)  Agitato mf Molto marcato  Analysis This section starts out at (No. 37) marked agitato, with the same melodic motif that was introduced the first time that the piano played at the beginning of the Rhapsody. This melody was also developed in the poco agitato section earlier. It consists of a 16th rest followed by three 16th notes and two eights. This familiar theme is used a different places throughout the Rhapsody, but in this section, it is developed with great speed and intensity, as it is actually a recap of the poco agitato section. At (No. 38) the music progresses with greater intensity and keeps building, and leads us to the molto marcato section which is six measures long. Molto means much or very, and Marcato means to perform with emphasis. Here, the orchestra plays a chromatic scale in contrary motion. Half of the orchestra ascends, while the other half of the orchestra descends chromatically. As the orchestra plays the chromatic scale with each note accented, as the scale continues it dramatically slows down to a final B-flat chord followed by a fermata before the last section of the Rhapsody.
