One of the biggest advantages of condition-based monitoring for your transformer is that it can be noninvasive. That means data and insights are collected without interrupting the normal operation of the electric power supply (i.e., no downtime!). Infrared thermography—or IR scanning—is one of those noninvasive techniques and uses a thermal imaging camera to detect high levels of heat. The radar level meter is based on the principle of time domain reflection (TDR). The electromagnetic pulse of the radar level meter propagates along the steel cable or probe at the speed of light. When encountering the surface of the measured medium, part of the pulse of the radar level meter is reflected to form an echo and returns to the pulse transmitter along the same path. The distance between the transmitter and the surface of the measured medium is proportional to the propagation time of the pulse between them. The liquid level height is calculated.

Air XS vs Air XD. What’s the difference? Although each unit looks similar, there are a few key differences between the Air XS and the Air XD. The Air XD #dust monitor is designed to provide accurate, real-time data on airborne particulates between 0.35 μm and 40 μm. It uses an optical particle counter to instantly size each particle and classify them into 4 bin sizes. Doesn’t the Air XD also measure silica? The Air XD would measure particulate the size of respirable crystalline silica, but it would not be able to distinguish it from other dust particulate. That’s where the Air XS #silica monitor comes in. It’s designed to provide accurate, real-time data on airborne RCS. It measures particulate between 1 μm to 10 μm and uses optical refraction technology to detect the optical markers of respirable silica.
