Sometimes I wonder about the effectiveness of our industry's hiring standards. I, for one, have learned almost nothing to write about in the last year about React that I didn’t know before, and I’d argue that any developer with some decent software engineering experience could get to the same level of expertise in React as someone with years of experience solely in React. There is just so much that you can learn about a specific tool. GraphQL, to give you a different example, can probably be learned in less than a month, and mastered to a high level in less than 6. Typescript, if you come from a different statically typed language (some say typescript is not a language but let’s not start this discussion here), will probably have very little for you to learn once you have 3 years of study and production work with it. I’m not even saying that experience itself is bad, but I’m really thoughtful about this “experience with a specific tool” thing. Just imagine how many software engineering candidates so many companies have lost because “uuuuh you don’t know my can-be-learned-in-a-month tool”. I’ve been thrown at problems out of my scope many times before, having to solve golang and python stuff when they’re not even my focus, and still, I was able to do them just nicely, and I don’t even consider myself to be that good. This industry needs to change it’s hiring standards.

Hello LinkedIn Family, Day 10 of building an industrial application! Today, I won’t be implementing any backend features. As a backend developer, I’ve learned a lot about Node.js, but at the beginning of my career, whether freelancing or working on personal projects, I realized how crucial frontend knowledge is. There were times when I got stuck, just like I am right now. So, for the next few days, I will be diving into React. Despite my strong backend skills, I recognize the importance of having a well-rounded skill set, especially if you’re considering remote job opportunities abroad. After React, I plan to explore two very popular frameworks that are essential for any out-of-country remote developer. Starting today, it's all about learning React.
