I had participated in the development of the below report, and humbled to see its release. While I participated in the consultations, TEC did most of the post-consultation work. The final report is very balanced in terms of the technical content, and goes on to present the facts for the policy makers to work with. The conclusion part makes the following references which will be central to the next steps in India, and more within Prasar Bharati. "The success of enabling these approaches for consumption by mobile devices, particularly smartphones or tablets, relies on developing an ecosystem for open-market, low-cost, affordable smartphones operating on the Indian UHF band. The ability of DTT2M operators to develop this device ecosystem and broadcast to tens of millions of open-market mobile devices will ultimately define the success of DTT2M in India." And to the policy makers within Department of Telecommunications ( DOT ) and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI), the following need to be resolved for India to move ahead, "From a policy standpoint, DTT2M services will directly compete with terrestrial mobile services, as a significant portion of the live television streaming data traffic currently managed by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) may shift to DTT2M services. Hence, TSPs are eager to ensure a level playing field. Moreover, the earmarking of spectrum for DTT2M services and its fair allocation will be crucial for their expansion in India." I now look forward to work with Avinash Agarwal ji and his team on the Future Work section of the report.

Deployment Challenges and Solutions Deploying new broadcasting technologies like ATSC 3.0 and 5G Broadcast comes with its set of challenges. ATSC 3.0, for instance, requires additional hardware for compatibility with mobile devices, which could slow its adoption in the mobile market. However, 5G Broadcast, leveraging existing mobile infrastructure, presents a less disruptive and more cost-effective solution for mobile content delivery. These technologies must be viewed as complementary, with each addressing different aspects of the ecosystem to provide a holistic broadcasting strategy. Understanding these nuances is crucial for stakeholders planning future deployments. #TechChallenges #Broadcasting #5GBroadcast"

How much do you know about 5g broadcasting? 5G Broadcast is a standalone technology that delivers content directly to devices without requiring cellular service, Wi-Fi, or other connections. It efficiently delivers content to multiple users simultaneously, reducing network strain and enabling new applications. Because it doesn't require a cellular service, no SIM card is required.
