I am not sounding "demeaning" ... But is it not true that "#everyone" has been revolutionizing #AI lately? As I said earlier, it is unlikely to be a #Socialistic space ... all getting a pie of it. It is, rather, going to be #WinnerTakesItAll model ... Initially an #Oligopoly ... moving towards #Monopolistic nature. And as of now, I see very less opportunity for players with $4 millions, or even $400 millions. Let us agree on few basic things on what #AI is and what it is not ... And who the players are, in the race, and who are not. Presently it has become #FreeForAll ... anybody can say anything with #AI ... that is not distilling our knowledge and understanding of it ... true, still it is in a very early stage of evolution ... But some distilling is necessary .. Otherwise it becomes like the Indian media hype of Rs. 2000/- currency notes ... Aya is a new AI model that can follow instructions in 101 languages, over 50% of which are lower-resourced languages that typically have less available training data. Aya outperforms prior multilingual models such as mT0 and BLOOMZ on most tasks while covering twice as many languages. The researchers (over 3,000 independent researchers across 119 countries) created extensive new benchmark tests to evaluate multilingual AI models' abilities across 99 languages, testing a wider range of skills such as reasoning, generation, human evaluation, and simulated task performance. They also carefully investigated optimal training data composition, data filtering, and model toxicity/biases. Overall, this work pushes the boundaries of multilingual AI, enabling broader access to powerful models instead of just focusing on data-rich languages. It also establishes more rigorous multilingual testing. The model and datasets are openly shared to advance research. As an enterprise leveraging AI, this research highlights the importance of focusing not just on major languages, but also enabling AI systems to support a diverse range of languages in order to make technology accessible to more people and communities globally. As, AI becomes more prevalent and embedded in society there will be a moral need (and a business opportunity) to expand AI accessibility beyond "first-class" languages. Enterprise will need to ensure AI systems are serving all users appropriately without unintended biases. Overall this work reminds us that multilinguality should be a priority for responsible and inclusive AI development, not an afterthought. We're sure we've mentioned this somewhere before. But in this case, we're happy to repeat ourselves. It's a little look back into the past. For KINALI as a deep tech company, the Visionaries award is special. Why? Deep tech is based on a long development process before the actual product or the final order for a specific client is created. They are not box solutions that can be produced in bulk. When you are about to embark on a long and expensive development process (understand months to years and millions of crowns in investment) and most importantly when you want it to turn out well, you need a vision at the beginning. A vision of what you are creating, what the machine should be able to do, how it should serve the new owner. Especially when most of the machines or software we build for our customers perform tasks unique to each job.
