It is with tremendous sadness that we share the news that our colleague and friend Professor Timothy Darvill has passed away who had been diagnosed with cancer only a few months ago. Tim was a passionate advocate for Archaeology and Anthropology and has been a part of the fabric of Bournemouth University for 30 years. He was a core member of our academic family and played a leading role across all aspects of our team, both a fervent educator and a world leading researcher. There are many within the discipline who count Tim as a mentor and friend. He will be missed. Please join us in taking a moment to remember Tim and the impact he has had on many of our lives. More information will follow once we have had time to digest the news.
Very sad news. It's been a long time since I'd seen Tim but he was excellent to work with, extraordinarily generous to a young no-nothing administrator and very funny. There are two of his linguistic quirks that I have shamelessly nicked and use to this day. He was also a brilliant academic. And the only man I've known who had Druids calling him up to ask about the bodies. My condolences to family, friends and colleagues.
Truly hard to comprehend such sad news, condolences to his family, friends and anyone affected by this 🙏🏻
very sad news indeed - Tim was one of the best academics I've known and so passionate about his subject that he wanted to share with everyone whenever he could - a true public intellectual. Condolences to all who knew him at Bournemouth and to his family and friends.
I didn't spend a lot of time with Tim during my degree, but the times I did get to have conversations with him I was struck by his hopefulness and optimism, like understanding the past was joyful and anything was possible if you approached it from enough angles. A huge loss to, well, everyone.
This is extremely sad news. We lost an excellent academic, mentor and a very good friend. You will always be in our hearts.
He will be missed, a generous scholar and gentleman.
Very sad news and a true gent. My thoughts go out to his family and loved ones
So sad about these news. I did my degree in B'mouth with him. He was great as a lecturer and as an archaeologist.
