I just read a nice post from Bob Fish founder and CEO of Lansing based Biggby Coffee about his company's "Farm Direct" approach. I'm glad to see him moving in this direction. If he wants to reach even higher, he might adopt or adapt the approach of Michigan-based Higher Grounds Coffee and turn Biggby into a certified B-Corp, or even a co-op or employee owned one. https://lnkd.in/eh2tTnKX

If you’re a coffee professional or enthusiast, it was impossible to ignore the launch of several celebrity-backed coffee brands last week. We saw National Football League player Patrick Mahomes become the lead investor in Throne SPORT COFFEE, rock band Green Day partner with Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. on a new coffee line, and former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani start his own coffee brand in the wake of filing for bankruptcy. Celebrity coffee brands are nothing new, however. Since the early 1970s, athletes, actors, musicians, and influential figures have endorsed, promoted, or even launched their own coffee companies. But over the past few years, the trend has become significantly more noticeable – and is clearly impacting the specialty coffee market, too. In light of this, it’s important to ask whether these brands and partnerships are adding value to the industry, or if they are even having the opposite effect. Not 263 Years But 47 Years And Counting The oldest drinks brand we’ve worked on, Worthington’s, was founded in 1761 - some 263 years ago. So, at just under five decades old, we’re relative whippersnappers. But we’d like to think we’ve matured over the years and gained in knowledge and skills; not to mention acquired a taste for the drinks world. We’ve worked across a broad range of categories, such as cognac, gin, whisky and vodka, for clients across the globe. We’d also like to think that our experience equips us well to create distinctive, impactful, engaging, and effective solutions whatever our clients’ objectives and metrics.
