Applying Lean Principles in Government Today, I had the pleasure of meeting with a local government employee in Dallas, Texas, who expressed a keen interest in learning about Lean principles and applying them in the public sector. I am truly grateful for this individual's interest and their willingness to learn and contribute to our community. My experience working in the public sector and serving the community in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was immensely rewarding. I had the privilege of collaborating with an administration dedicated to integrating Lean principles into local government operations to enhance services, reduce costs for residents, and improve customer service. In this post, I will share a video showcasing one of the exceptional teams that improved the process of cutting and trimming trees for the City of Grand Rapids. This team, along with their outstanding leaders, demonstrated that Lean can be effectively applied in local government and that its benefits can be sustained. Thanks to the excellent leadership at the time and the willingness of the Forestry Department team to embrace Lean, significant benefits were realized both professionally and personally. Initially, there was some skepticism about adopting this new way of thinking and improving processes. However, once they understood that Lean focuses on people and involves the entire team in finding solutions, they embraced it wholeheartedly and achieved remarkable improvements. Together with their leaders, they celebrated their collective success. Today, I met with a City of Dallas official who is eager to learn more about Lean and pursue certification to better serve our community here in Dallas, Texas. This meeting inspired me to write this post and share a short video of the exemplary Forestry team in the City of Grand Rapids, Michigan. We need Lean principles in our public sector, and it is essential to support our government employees in acquiring the necessary knowledge. When they succeed, the entire community benefits. Services are delivered faster, rates are reduced, and overall costs are improved. I envision a future where many of our Lean practitioners dedicate their time and effort to teaching Lean principles to government employees. This would advance our country and set a remarkable example for other nations. The United States already has a significant number of exceptional Lean practitioners; we just need more officials to be open-minded and willing to apply Lean in their work environments. #lean #goverment 4o

Setting Up the CDP Integrated Questionnaire Along with the new questionnaire, improvements have been made to the disclosure portal to simplify the disclosure and improve the self-service functions. The CDP has introduced new tools for data validation, error checking before submission and collaborative editing. The first step of completing the questionnaire is to complete the Questionnaire set-up flow and theme assignment. The set-up approach streamlines the disclosure process by ensuring that companies report on the full questionnaire or SME version determined by the CDPs Activity classification system Companies are also asked whether they have evaluated the dependencies regarding forestry and water to ensure that the company reports on environmental issues most pertinent to the organization. DOE has proposed the adoption of 7 new CatEx activities established by the USFS relating to land management. Given the observed increase in destructive natural events, this action appears to allow for DOE to provide a more proactive approach to protect and restore critical infrastructure and surrounding lands due to our warming climate and associated weather events.
