Glenda Montes grew up in Puerto Rico and started her career as a Buffalo Police Officer two years ago. She always wanted to have a big impact on the lives of teenagers and she gets to do that through her role as an officer every day. People like Glenda Montes really make an impact in our department, our community, and our city. We look forward to seeing the impact Glenda and officers like her continue to make across the City of Buffalo.

Today marks the 23rd anniversary of September 11th. On this day and every day, we honor victims, survivors and heroes. We are also reminded of our resilience, determination and how proud we are to call ourselves New Yorkers. Our city has emerged stronger and more unified than ever before and we will never forget what brought us here. #NeverForget _________________________ Via Instagram: @wtc_memories

The swells that sunk the 729' #EdmundFitzgerald, the last of the great wrecks of the #GreatLakes, cleared the pilothouse at 50' above the waterline. The same sets came up behind the #ArthurMAnderson 10-miles astern to her west in the icy waters of #LakeSuperior. All hands of the Fitzgerald went down 49 yrs ago today, the 10th, her bell only recovered in 1995. Like the Titanic and the North Atlantic, Superior is too cold to give up her dead. Perhaps not even as dramatic as the 639' #CarlDBradley snapping in half on the surface of #LakeMichigan to the south near #Milwaukee, November 18th, 1958. 33 lost, 2 survived, widowing 23 in Rogers City, MI alone. A mass funeral was held at a local church, all but nine of the caskets were empty. The 647' Anderson still steams the lakes, splash date 1957, operated by #GreatLakesShipping, Duluth, MN, a subsidiary of #USsteel. November 11th marks the date where the surface temperature of the Lakes and the air temp above have the highest disparity causing a tempestuous climate. #Sweetwater being fast and wet, swells run high and close, a ship can spend much of its voyage below water. And being the end of the shipping season before the ice, heightened last minute traffic means higher risks. The #GreatWhiteHurricane of 1913 began on November 6th. 271 mariners and 11 ships lost, 11 more aground, mostly in the first six hours. There are 7000 shipwrecks on the North American Great Lakes over 400yrs, starting with the mystery of the #Griffen only found recently in Green Bay, and representing ~30,000 lives lost at sea, among 17,000 kilometers of littoral, 35,000 islands, 28,000 cubic-kilometers of water, or 21% of the world's liquid fresh surface water. No, you may not have any. #TheFitz #TheRealThirdCoast #Freshwater #NATO #Hollywood #Rustbelt #Bloodroot #MKE #PalmsToTheBlock #WhiteTrashGreenWater #414

What’s interesting is that other companies are also using some of the same logistical strategies, but somehow justify cutting costs and raising prices simultaneously. He says it best at the end: there’s no board of directors pushing for higher profit margins by any means necessary.

Memorable Quotes by President Jimmy Carter The 39th president of the United States has dedicated himself to community service and championed human rights throughout much of his life. Our American values are not luxuries, but necessities -- not the salt in our bread, but the bread itself. ~ Jimmy Carter War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other's children. ~ Jimmy Carter To be true to ourselves, we must be true to others. ~ Jimmy Carter We should live our lives as though Christ were coming this afternoon. ~ Jimmy Carter We cannot resort to simplistic or extreme solutions which substitute myths for common sense. ~ Jimmy Carter America did not invent human rights. In a very real sense, it is the other way round. Human rights invented America. ~ Jimmy Carter In a nuclear age, each of us is threatened when peace is not secured everywhere. - ~ Jimmy Carter The awareness that health is dependent upon habits that we control makes us the first generation in history that to a large extent determines its own destiny.
Jimmy Carter is a national treasure.

Crossing Cultural Communities by Jesus Jesus J. Hernandez produced by Gil Bivens Growing up in the melting pot of American society, Washington found himself caught in a whirlwind of questions about his own identity. Was he Latino enough, with his Spanish accent and childhood memories of Ecuador? Was he Black enough, with his rich brown skin and curly hair? Or was he American enough, navigating the nuances of a culture that often seemed at odds with his roots? It was this passion that ultimately landed him an executive role with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. There, he was tasked with the complex, yet rewarding challenge of integrating products and services, ensuring accessibility and affordability for diverse communities.
