Absolutely right. A major reason for the 1920’s peak is the second National Infrastructure Bank which took the initiative to make PA the center of manufacturing. Now is the time for the US to work on HR 4052 for the creation of the fifth National Infrastructure Bank. Let’s get it done; check out nibcoalition.com. #nationalinfrastructurebank
At its peak in 1920, the railroad industry had more than 11,500 miles of track in the state of Pennsylvania. Today, around 5,900 miles of active track exists. The Schuylkill River corridor is fortunate to have a share of some of the best, well maintained trackage in the state—thanks to Norfolk Southern, CSX, Amtrak and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA)—significantly helping the prospects of the return of passenger rail to the Reading, Pottstown and Phoenixville communities. #GoSRPRA #traintravel #PAproud #reading #pottstown #phoenixville #philadelphia #schuylkillriver #pennsylvania

In 1913, the Lincoln Highway was established as the first road across the USA, marking a significant milestone in the nation's history of transportation. This ambitious project aimed to connect New York City to San Francisco, covering approximately 3,389 miles across the heart of America. The initiative was spearheaded by the Lincoln Highway Association, which was founded on July 1, 1913. The association's vision was to create a continuous, improved road across the country, promoting the idea that good roads could unite the nation. The route passed through 13 states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California. Despite the lack of federal funding, the project received widespread support from communities along the route, who saw the potential for economic growth and increased accessibility. The Lincoln Highway became a symbol of American progress and innovation, influencing the development of the national road system and paving the way for future highway projects. Today, the Lincoln Highway serves as a nostalgic route that offers a glimpse into early 20th-century America, attracting travelers interested in the country's historical and cultural heritage. #milestonesinhistory #automotivehistory #LincolnHighway #AmericanInnovation #NationUnite #RoadAcrossAmerica #CulturalHeritage #EconomicGrowth

Thrilled to share a major update from the heart of San Diego! 🌊 🚧 In a City where the stakes for robust infrastructure have never been higher, I've stepped into a new adventure as the Director for the City of San Diego’s Transportation Department. January 22nd marked a historic day for us with record flooding, putting the spotlight on the urgent need for resilient infrastructure. It's been a whirlwind, diving deep into the challenges from day one – with over 6,600 lane miles of roads crying out for attention and a bold $1.9B vision to pave our future. But, the journey’s just begun. Our team's relentless drive has led to the creation of San Diego's first-ever Pavement Management Plan (https://lnkd.in/g5bhyED5). It's not just about laying asphalt; it's about paving the way for a city that moves smarter, faster, and safer. 🚀 As we navigate the twists and turns of transportation, my mantra remains the same: Grit, hard work, and clear skies of no excuses. Transparency, urgency, and proactive communication are the fuel that powers our journey forward. A huge shoutout to the mentors and colleagues who've been the compass in this journey over the years – Michael Rolband, PE, PWD, PWS Emeritus, Carlton Ray, George Hawkins, Mark Kim – your guidance has been the beacon of success. San Diego, we are in motion, and together, we're not just building roads; we're driving a vision for the future. Let's champion the change for a city that moves, because we are #SanDiegoatWork. 💪 🔎 Check out "Transportation Champions" (https://lnkd.in/g6YurCSc) for more insights into our mission and impact. #SanDiego #Infrastructure #Innovation #TransportationEngineering #PublicService #Leadership #ASCE #PavementManagement #RoadToTheFuture #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork

As cities and metropolitan areas grow, they increase their needs for a variety of infrastructure, including multiple transportation options. Axios ran a story this summer about multimodal infrastructure for the Research Triangle area in North Carolina. and the federal funding recently provided for it. Has your community or region been developing long-term plans to provide the transportation infrastructure it will require for a sustainable future? Transit options are usually only supported after great effort. While perusing through other stories on transportation, I also found one on the desire to restart a Southern rail line from Mobile to New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina took out that link and politics and other obstacles have interfered with a revived Amtrak line between those two points. Are there other possibilities for rail service which would connect those cities, such as more inland routes with spokes reaching out to coastal cities? #transportation #infrastructure #regionalexpansion #urbangrowth #transit #rail #passengerrail #transportationgrid https://lnkd.in/eczrxM-X
