Just finished my proudest piece of this project so far: AI Refactoring 🕹️. I am working on a 2D game "framework" for learning purposes, and just recently I had the opportunity to play with AI simulations. By giving State Machines, Behavior Trees and Utility AI a shot, I ended up designing and creating, from scratch and without any help or guidance, a combination of them, an Utility AI that contains States which allow me to run code before and after the selected priority (Wander, Wait, Chase, Flee, Attack...), and also the loop, instead of just one of them. This allows for an endless amount of options to extend the entity's behavior with, and soon I will learn how GOAP works just to see if I can make smarter enemies. The goal of this project is to learn how to code better. I think Game Dev is the best choice for this, because it is, in my opinion, one of the few software development branches that touches almost every other discipline that exists: designing, architecture, organization, version control, music, art, coding practices, performance, endless testing, AI, machine learning, deep learning, physics, 2D/3D animation, cinematography, writing, concurrency, simple and complex math, all of them in one place. I look forward to the day when AI can help bring my ideas to life in a matter of months instead of years. Jumping on the AI bandwagon, I do have some concerns as a developer about the future of my programming skills. However, coding is just one aspect of what I do. Solutions like CoPilot and similar tools have significantly increased the speed at which I can build scalable applications. But to accomplish everything I want to do, I need a 1000x increase in efficiency. The problem lies in the fact that my list of ideas is growing exponentially, while my coding speed is only improving marginally. #AI #CoPilot #Coding #Innovation
