Does your house need planning permission for cladding? Do I need planning permission to knock a boundary wall and build another one? Can I install a shower and toilet in a concrete shed that's not attached to the house at the end of the garden without planning? Can I get retrospective planning permission? What is the planning rule around log cabins at the back of my garden? What's the planning rule on Velux windows in the roof of a cottage? Can I build a stand-alone granny flat without planning permission on my property? Do I need planning permission for an attic conversion? Can I put a small gate in my back wall that leads to a public area beside me? Can I build an extension on the side of a detached home in a housing estate? Some of the planning questions our expert planner Joe Corr answered when speaking to NewstalkFM KieranCuddihy on the Hard Shoulder yesterday. Listen back here 👇 https://lnkd.in/ejPmzB7i

As part of our commitment to continuing professional development, and enhancing traditional skills and trades, we arranged an in-depth training session on the history, use and application of Hot Limes. Delivered by Nigel Copsey, in collaboration with the Building Crafts College at Stratford, London. Members of our team and the attendees from the college, spent two days working together to advance our knowledge. Hot mixed mortars and renders were widely used in the UK for many centuries and are growing in use once again. Current research to further understand their properties and benefits, will help us maximise their performance and improve industry best practice. #Stonewest #HotLimes #Training #ProtectingOurHeritage nigel copsey The Building Crafts College

Teaching the next generation of builders! (in small steps)
Check out this incredible story from WDEF-TV about the Build-A-Bench Project at the Construction Career Center! High school juniors and seniors, with guidance from BLOC members and CCC staff, put their skills to work designing and constructing over 30 custom benches for the Chattanooga Zoo and public spaces across the city. This hands-on project not only strengthens students' technical abilities but also instills pride in giving back to their community.

Spring is here at last and that means summer is just around the corner. Summer vacation is also school renovation season, so plan ahead and order your fire dampers, louvers and accessories ahead of the rush. School projects frequently need to be completed in a tight timeframe, so every potential delay or complication you can avoid in advance is one step closer to making your projected completion date. Avoid the headache, avoid the rush, and place spring orders for summer school projects! www.firedamper.com #LloydIndustries #SchoolRenovation #OrderNow #SchoolProjects #SpringOrders #SummerRenovation #FacilitiesManagement #ProjectPlanning #Schools #Construction

Adams' Delaware Valley Job Corps Carpentry students Giannai, Nick, Chris, Johaethen, and Joseph received valuable hands-on experience through their restoration of the Narrowsburg Union’s parking lot! The location is used weekly for cultural events such as the Farmer’s Market and other social gatherings. Despite the snow, the five students utilized their skills to best serve their community, with plenty of nails, screws, wood, measuring tape, gloves, hammers and ladders. Their work was much more than a simple restoration task or class assignment—The project embraces a shared purpose and understanding of the community’s evolving needs. For the Narrowsburg Union, being trapped in time was a continuous reality for a decade. Once known as the former Narrowsburg Central Rural School, built right at the cusp of the Great Depression, the site saw its last graduating class in 2001, according to a River Reporter article. Upon being purchased in 2014, the site received a new name and identity: the Narrowsburg Union. Throughout its changes, the Narrowsburg Union never lost its focus on setting individuals on an educational path. Delaware Valley student contributions will have a long-lasting impact on the institution’s legacy, while allowing them to hone their skills, advance in their careers and achieve their professional goals. #jobcorps #careersbeginhere #workforcetraining #carpentry #narrowsburgunion

Growing Builder Confidence Should Help Housing Supply I was just touring homes in Kirkland WA and was impressed with the amount of building activity. Many of the new homes are replacing existing older homes but they are adding ADU's. There are a number of multi-home projects as well. Seattle's rule changes could bring a increase in new homes in the next few years as well. #housingsupply #homebuyingtips #kingcountyrealestate #snohomishcountyrealestate
