As we consider leadership, setting clear priorities is essential for sustainable growth and community well-being. If elected, Harrison Roday's focus will center on addressing these pressing challenges: 1️⃣ Affordable Housing: Tackling the rising cost of rent is paramount. Everyone deserves a place to call home in the city they work in. 2️⃣ City Hall Accountability: Initiating audits and performance reviews across city agencies to ensure effectiveness and transparency in governance. 3️⃣ Investing in Education & Public Safety: Strengthening our schools and ensuring a safe environment for all residents is non-negotiable. 4️⃣ Circulating Local Dollars: By creating living opportunities within the city, we can keep our workforce engaged and invested in our community. 5️⃣ Leveraging Growth: Using tax revenue from new developments to reinvest in historically overlooked neighborhoods allows us to create a more equitable city. To thrive, our cities must evolve from commuter-centric models to vibrant communities where individuals can live, work, and play. #UrbanDevelopment #AffordableHousing #CommunityEngagement #RVASmallBusinessShow #RVASmallBusinessNetwork #MeetTheCandidate

BIG’s Housing Co-op Initiative took shape in 2023 as housing changemakers recognized the potential of deep collaboration to expand opportunities for community governance of housing and the creation of housing co-operatives. This peer learning initiative created space to share, ask questions, meet partners and advance shared goals around cooperatively managed housing. Keep an eye out as this work evolves in 2024. When folks come to me and ask why we at United Way haven’t “solved” poverty yet here is one aspect of that conversation that bears repeating and deserves exploration... Housing, policy, influx of investments, and so on. The issue is complex. Check out the series linked below for a bit more:
Does the lack of affordable housing in San Francisco affect Oakland? Does it affect Vallejo? YES. Check out this clip from EP 4 of our Just A Moment series that explains why we are focussed on a bigger picture of supporting #HousingJustice across all 8 Bay Area counties. Are you Good Neighbors? - ‘Affordable housing' frequently conjures images of subsidized developments, regulatory frameworks, and battles over zoning laws. These are critical aspects of the conversation, but they often overlook simple, more straightforward solutions hiding in plain sight — inclusive housing through inclusive zoning. Good Neighbors recognize the symbiotic relationship between inclusivity and affordability and how, through innovative policies and community planning, we can create a destiny where economic growth and inclusivity increase the quality of life. https://lnkd.in/esVWyyMZ #GoodNeighborsAcrossAmerica #GoodNeighborsIndex #AEIHousingCenter

"We want to be the city where you don’t have to choose between economic prosperity and housing affordability.” As many cities grapple with housing issues, at our Housing Innovation Summit we experienced first hand that the City of Denver and the State of Colorado are taking bold approaches to prioritize increasing supply and ensuring equitable access. Here are some key takeaways from our fireside session with Denver Mayor Mike Johnston + Santhosh Ramdoos of Gary Community Ventures: ✔ Continue actions to reform permitting and zoning processes, with a goal of 30% reduction in permitting time by year end. ✔ Create pathways & financing structures to streamline supply & standup units quickly, while working with residents to demonstrate the broader benefits increasing household count in their neighborhoods ✔ Maintain focus on a strategy to promote private sector support in developing both market-rate & affordable units ✔ Lead Affordable Denver through a citywide goal to permit, secure, finance or support development and preservation of 5,000 long term affordable housing units annually Mayor Johnston envisions a future with a mix of affordable & market-rate housing throughout the city, fostering a city that remains economically vibrant while ensuring a spectrum of housing solutions for its residents to thrive. Watch his session to learn more about that vision. https://lnkd.in/gRPDFJh4
