Midlands Engine Partnership showcases £48bn+ investment opportunities across the Midlands at UKREiiF 2024 The Midlands Engine Partnership came together at this year’s UK Real Estate Infrastructure Investment Forum to showcase to a global audience partner priority investment propositions worth in excess of £48bn and with the potential to create around 380,000 jobs – more than doubling current jobs in the region. For the first time, the Midlands Engine Partnership hosted its own pavilion giving local authority, business and university representatives a platform to present investment opportunities from across the Midlands. Panel discussions covered diverse topics from how Lincolnshire is powering the low-carbon energy sector, and how multiple developments will rejuvenate Derby city centre, to how Worcester’s Shrub Hill Development will bring a boost to the city with 5000 new jobs. Panel sessions in the pavilion were followed by the Midlands Investment Reception on Tuesday evening. An established event at UKREiiF, the Reception featured a welcome from Sir John Peace and the newly elected combined authority mayors – Richard Parker for the West Midlands and Claire Ward for the East. Businesses in East Renfrewshire are invited to submit project funding bids for a £80 million Investment Zone to be created in the Glasgow City Region. Glasgow City Region is one of two new Scottish investment zones to benefit from investment, tax reliefs and other incentives over ten years for a package of projects which will boost the innovation economy. To be eligible to bid for funding, business should be in three key sectors: life sciences; advanced manufacturing and precision engineering; digital and enabling technologies. Project bids must be able to provide at least 60% of the project funding which would then be matched by 40% of public funding in capital/revenue investment or tax incentives through the Investment Zone. The Investment Zone offers significant opportunities for businesses to grow and prosper, for job creation, inward investment and economic development in East Renfrewshire. Bids should be submitted through an online portal by 5.00pm on 31 March 2024. For more information or to discuss bids, contact the economic development team at business@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk. Once bids have been reviewed and assessed, the final phase of the Glasgow City Region Investment Zone process will involve the collation of the region’s formal proposal, including the package of projects, for consideration and approval by the UK and Scottish Governments. Glasgow City Region (GCR) is one of two new Scottish investment zones to benefit from investment, tax reliefs and other incentives over ten years for a package of projects which will boost the innovation economy. GCR’s Investment Zone has £160 million funding available for project funding bids from eligible businesses. ☘ ☘ PM International Investment Summit Speech say he wants to ‘enable the builders not the blockers’.. 🌳 Prime Minister Keir Starmer delivered a speech at the International Investment Summit on the 14 October 2024 making reference to the need for planning to support growth and to restrict regulation and asking a series of questions as to whether it will make our economy more dynamic; inhibit or unlock investment?; or does it enable the builders not the blockers? 🏢 Continuing to say: “But we’ve also got to look at regulation – across the piece. And where it is needlessly holding back the investment we need to take our country forward… Where it is stopping us building the homes… The data centres, the warehouses, grid connectors, roads, trainlines, you name it… Then mark my words – we will get rid of it. Take the East Anglia 2 wind farm. A £4 billion investment. One Gigawatt of clean energy. An important project – absolutely. But also the sort of thing a country as committed to clean energy as we are… Needs to replicate again and again. Now regulators demanded over four thousand planning documents for that project… Not 4000 pages – 4000 documents. And then six weeks after finally receiving planning consent… It was held up for a further two years by judicial review. I mean – as an investor… When you see this inertia… You just don’t bother do you? And that – in a nutshell… Is the biggest supply-side problem we have in our country.
