Every year, millions of children who range in age from birth through five benefit from an array of federal early learning and care programs. While there are different early learning settings and certain programs have distinct requirements, together they form a mixed-delivery system that strives to support the care, education, and healthy development of children, prioritizing children from low-income families, parental choice, and children’s individual needs. Economic Burden on Families During School Resumption. As a new school year begins, the financial strain on families is undeniable. The cost of school supplies, including backpacks, uniforms, textbooks, and other essentials, quickly adds up. For families with more than one child, these costs can increase by as much as 30%, placing a heavy burden on households with limited income. Ensuring that children are prepared for school becomes a challenge, and many parents struggle to provide even the basics. On average, families with one child may spend between ₦80,000 and ₦120,000 during school resumption. However, for families with two or more children, this amount can double or even triple. The cost of equipping multiple children with the necessary items often means sacrifices are made in other areas of the family budget, affecting the overall well-being of the household. To address this issue, the Brilliance and Purposeful Foundation's "Bag a Child" initiative aims to support families by providing essential school supplies to children in need. By easing this financial burden, we can help parents and ensure that every child starts the school year ready to learn and succeed. Let’s come together to lighten the load for these families and support their children’s education. Is children’s crisis inevitable? I feel I’ve been talking about crisis in childhood for too long. Last year at Chance UK I spoke to a child who was excluded and suspended from school 17 times in a year – at 5 years old – and our ‘Too Young To Be Left Behind’ report highlighted escalating exclusions with almost every child excluded at Primary School having a special educational need or disability. But 2025 is already starting off better with a focus on children from the Government's Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill back for debate this week. It doesn’t solve everything (when has legislation every done that) but it is a step towards building an education system that nurtures every child. Key highlights include: 📚 Curriculum changes: No one wants changes for changes sake, but we know the current curriculum has huge gaps around social and emotional education – the stuff that helps children grow well. This review is an opportunity for lessons that can inspire kids and reduce exclusions. 🛡️ Strengthened safeguarding: Safeguarding is everyone’s concern, but those who most often see children are the ones who can spot changes or patterns over time, and the Bill will give schools and childcare settings an even greater role in protecting children from harm. 🏡 Support for home-educated children: Too many families I spoke to in 2024 removed their child from school because there wasn’t the support for their specific needs. This Bill gives the chance to understand and support those families who want to home educate, whilst also putting more money into schools to provide better SEND support 🧥 Affordable school uniforms: I’ve spoken this year to children sent home for not having the ‘right’ uniform, when at home there isn’t enough money to feed the whole family. This bill will place legal limits on branded items to make everyday uniforms more affordable for families. So this Bill does give me hope. And this is just the beginning—change only works if children and young people’s voices are heard at every step. Crisis isn’t inevitable. We only get one chance at childhood, and experiences in schools can have an impact for life. #Education #ChildrensWellbeing #TooYoungToLeaveBehind https://lnkd.in/ewN_cyrQ

📚 🌟 Teachers are the backbone of our communities, shaping the minds and futures of our children. As we enter a new school year, let’s find ways to give back and support them! Here are a few ideas: • 📖 Become a Mystery Reader: Surprise your child’s class by reading a favorite book and sharing your love of reading. • 🌐 Support the PTA: Get involved in activities that raise funds and provide resources for teachers. • 🏫 Be a Homeroom Parent: Help coordinate classroom activities, which gives teachers valuable support. • 🍎 Consider Subbing: Schools need qualified, caring substitute teachers. It’s a powerful way to lend a hand! In my book From Burnout to Brilliance, I dive into practical strategies to help educators overcome burnout, find renewed energy, and continue doing what they love. Any country must ensure the teachers are doing their jobs right, in raising children with good values. Teaching children the importance of being loving to one another and respecting one another. These things are to be taught by parents, but some parents are having their own challenges. So, Teachers must pay attention to those children whose families are having challenges and unable to give care and affection to the child. Hiring loving and kind teachers for the children is important, because we do not want to transfer bad attitudes and bad mindset to children, because what they see that is what they learn. All children belong to us. They are the future of our world. Teachers should be taught that in a society we all human belong to each other. As a family we must care for the children who do not get love from parents in their homes, do not get guidance in making good choices at home. Teachers must not only pay attention to academics but also pay attention to children and talk to them as a parent. Learn if they are getting the love of a parent, if not provide them love, care and affection of a parent. So these children do not grow up angry and do not grow up not able to trust others. Not able to believe others. We have to raise children who we can trust our future. They are the caretakers of our world. We must teach them not to lie, not to steal and not to cheat and be true and trustworthy. I child raised well will become a caretaker adult of the society. That child will become leader of our society. The child that cares should become a leader of our society. So today if we do a good job on them our tomorrow will be safe. Please do not ignore any child on earth. Give them a safe and kind world. Every adult was a child someday, their behaviors they are not responsible alone. Its something for us to think and process what went wrong where. What should we do to correct it. Do not teach children to be high scorers at any cost, teach them to be better human beings and be good learners of good and bad and how to apply the knowledge they learn for the betterment of the society. There is nothing valuable in scoring marks and wealth accumulation if its not utilized for contributing to a better world. Its better to share knowledge and money so everyone can make use of it and build a better world. Learn to share and learn to live together in a good world. We can create a good world together.
