Regina O & Ricky D! Although they have different backgrounds and experiences and work in different industries, they can still learn from each other! This week we covered Fundamental Active Listening Skills. Our students were tasked with sharing personal stories with each other to give the listener a chance to intentionally practice and reflect on their listening skills. Here is what we practiced this week: 1. Be present - Your mind can't wander. 2. Ask open-ended questions - No questions that answer with yes/no 3. Silence - Shut up, 6-7 seconds of silence is okay 4. Encourage Further Discussion - ask the right questions to keep learning

One of the most delicate challenges I face is managing the public speaking fear that many bring to a 2-day workshop. ❌ Scarred by a bad experience and relive humiliation. ✅Deconstructing a “failed” speech frees us from rumination. Understanding what went wrong and how, will avoid the same pitfalls. ❌ Convinced their opinions are worthless. ✅ Acquiring techniques to articulate them will enhance professional visibility & respect. ❌Surrender their speaking space to others. ✅ We can command our space with the universal stop sign: Hand up: “Actually, I have some thing to add.” I work quickly to establish a safe learning space. Where fear is acknowledged, not judged. This is why feedback is empowering. Both mine and the group's. I take shorthand notes on each trainee. And even when filming speeches, I am also writing notes. It creates a documentary journey for each individual. To see where they were, and celebrate how far they have come. That is where fear ends and confidence begins. #confidence #feedback #publicspeaking

In a recent session with a client of mine, we talked about Skill Building & Practice. 💻 We came to a conclusion that once aware, it's crucial to build the necessary skills. This involves continuous learning, practicing new behaviors, and fine-tuning your approach. Whether I am presenting a strategic planning session, facilitating, lecturing or delivering a speech, one thing that keeps me tossing and turning is an "ice-breaker". Starting on a wrong footing can ruin the entire session, therefore, planning and preparation are the main ingredient in delivering a successful session. To capture the attention of the audience and to keep them captivate, expects will tell you that no matter how many sessions you have done, your voice, your posture and body language is key and critical in when taking centre stage, imparting knowledge and sharing experience. #NeverTakeAnythingForGranted
