Did you know that climate issues were raised as a topic of concern in 19th century, and started with a woman whose pictures are nowhere to be found? Alice Bell, author of "Our Biggest Experiment: An Epic History of the Climate Crisis," gave a fascinating talk on climate history at the Climatebase Fellowship course. If you're interested in learning more about this important topic, check out her book here: https://lnkd.in/e3UV45se. #climatechange #climatecrisis #climatedebate

“Your net-zero building will burn down just as quickly as your non-net-zero one.” Someone had to say it—and thankfully, Tania Caceres, CRM, SCR did. While decarbonization and sustainability are crucial, we can’t afford to overlook the importance of climate resiliency. A big thank you to MaRS Discovery District’s Climate Impact Conference for shifting the conversation and highlighting the critical role of climate tech solutions for adaptation. Two days with incredible leaders, investors, and innovators, speaking honestly about what needs to happen today. (Including this insightful panel featuring Natalia Moudrak, Katie MacDonald, Mike Williams and Tania Caceres, CRM, SCR .) #MaRSClimateImpact

As Cohort 6 of the Climatebase Fellowship continues, a couple of the keynote addresses have really stuck with me: Jonathan Foley, Executive Director at Project Drawdown, which identifies the most cost effective, efficacious and rapid ways to attack the climate crisis - e.g., stopping deforestation and plugging methane leaks are immediate wins - and is bursting with ideas for how to get involved; and Tzeporah Berman of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty initiative, which is campaigning for commitments to NOT develop fossil fuel infrastructure. The insights in these two initiatives are absolutely crucial for us to actually accomplish the transition we need by 2050. #ClimatebaseFellowship

"Tipping points"—an often-used term in climate science—could define our planet's future, yet its definition remains vague and inconsistent. Can we afford such ambiguity in the face of urgent climate action? Or is a clear, unified definition necessary? 🤔 Join Vasilis Dakos (University of Montpellier) and Sebastian Bathiany (Technical University of Munich) from the #ClimTip project, alongside Bob Kopp (Rutgers University) and moderator Elisabeth Krueger (University of Amsterdam), as they dive into the concept of climate tipping points, its use and role in both scientific research and public understanding. During the session, the panel will explore: • Whether we need a precise definition of tipping points, or if the term's flexibility is an asset. • How tipping points apply across various disciplines and how they influence societal decisions. • Their role in public communication and the impact on decision-making. 🗓 11 October, 14:00-15:30 CEST 🔗 Register now: https://bit.ly/3zmHLzt Hosted by #AIMES, the Earth Commission, Future Earth, and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Safe Landing Climates Lighthouse Activity.
