🎃 Halloween Safety Reminder for Drivers 🎃 As Halloween approaches, our neighborhoods will be filled with excited kids in costumes, moving from house to house. It’s a time of excitement for them, but a time for extra caution for us drivers. Here are a few reminders to keep everyone safe this Halloween: 🚗 Slow Down: Kids can be unpredictable, darting out between parked cars or crossing streets unexpectedly. Reducing your speed gives you extra time to react. 👀 Stay Alert: Be vigilant, especially in residential areas. Keep an eye out for any movements on sidewalks, driveways, and road crossings. 🌙 Use Headlights: With early sunsets, visibility is key. Ensure your headlights are on, even in well-lit areas, to increase visibility for both you and others. 🚸 Avoid Distractions: Put away your phone and keep your focus on the road. A moment’s distraction can lead to a lifetime of regret. Let’s make this Halloween a safe and memorable night for everyone. 🎃

✨ Halloween Safety Tips ✨ (from your friendly neighborhood 911 dispatcher) - Make sure your children are visible while trick-or-treating. Reflective tape/vests and glow sticks are helpful! Trick-or-treat in well lit areas that are familiar to you and your children. - Make a safety plan with your children in the event you get separated from one another while trick-or-treating. I told my kids to go to the nearest street light and put their arm around the pole. Streetlights are easy to spot, well it, recognizable, and provide something for them to hold onto so they don't wander while you're looking for them. - Triple check the surroundings of your vehicle before reversing or driving, especially if your neighborhood gets a lot of trick-or-treaters. It can be helpful to have one person outside your vehicle watching your surroundings while you reverse. Pay close attention while driving on streets with lots of cars parked or lots of trees that make it harder to see the sidewalks. - Check your children's Halloween candy. You should be checking for anything homemade, choking hazards, discolored items, wrappers partially open, wrappers that have been taped/tampered with, or really anything out of the ordinary. When in doubt, throw it out! - Keep your home/property well lit, doors and windows locked, and vehicles locked. Halloween is a time of practical jokes, partying, and breaking and entering. Making sure your home and property are secure and well lit is one way to ensure a safe Halloween night. - In the event you need to call 911 tonight, the most important thing you need to know is where you are: pay attention to your surroundings, take notice of house numbers and landmarks, and enable emergency location services on your cell phone. I hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy Halloween night! 🎃 . . . What would you add to the list?? #Halloween #SafetyTips #Dispatch #SafetyFirst #TrickOrTreat

Whether you’re taking the kids trick-or-treating or have somewhere fun to be yourself, 𝙬𝙚 𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙖 𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩! Here are a few friendly reminders to ensure the kids of the North Okanagan and beyond have a safe night; Slow down – drive well below the speed limit to be prepared in case something, or someone darts onto the road. Don’t pass stopped vehicles without extra caution – drivers may be dropping children off When pulling into or backing out of driveways look all ways, and be sure other drivers are aware of your movements. Ensure your headlights are on, and yes, your signal will be extra important tonight. Unless your children are participating in Halloween, consider avoiding driving in subdivisions during the hours of 5pm to 9pm, when most trick-or-treating takes place. Leave extra time to get to where you need to be if you are heading out. Don’t use your cell phone while driving – and pay extra attention to the activity around you. Be extra conscious of sidewalks and crosswalks, as well as those moving between parked cars. Keep your sound down on your radio too. 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹. Have a safe and happy Halloween! Staff showed their spooky spirit and dressed up for a costume contest at the ANMC hospital. If you or your loved ones are out trick-or-treating tonight, here are a few safety tips to keep in mind: • Bring your own hand-hygiene supplies to stay healthy. • Use a flashlight or headlamps. • Be visible: Incorporate reflective, lighted or glow-in-the-dark materials into your costume or Halloween bucket. • Be aware of traffic and the environment: Put distractions away (such as electronics). Make sure you're keeping an eye out for cars and other motorists and look both ways before crossing at crosswalks or intersections. Driving safety tips: • Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways. • Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs. • Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully. • Get rid of any distractions – such as your phone – in your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings. • Turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances. • Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30-9:30 p.m. Be especially alert for kids during those hours.
