In an Australian first, we’re partnering with Ramsay Health Care to develop the next generation of nurses through a new program, starting next year. It’ll see graduate nurses from Bupa and Ramsay Health Care given the opportunity take a three-month exchange, trading places and gaining valuable experience across aged care and hospital settings. Managing Director Bupa Villages & Aged Care Australia Andrew Kinkade said with Australia’s population ageing and increased care needs, it’s important that we continue to evolve to meet those needs. “The new partnership is the first time an aged care organisation has offered graduate nurses the opportunity to work and learn in a hospital setting as part of their graduate experience. At the same time, Ramsay graduates have the opportunity to get experience in providing care an aged care setting,” he said. Ramsay Health Care’s Chief Nurse and Clinical Services Director, Associate Professor Assoc. Professor Bernadette Eather, said the program was a great professional development opportunity for graduates. “The program will offer our graduates comprehensive clinical experience and the development of key skills for managing aged care patients who can experience a variety of short and long-term health issues, as well as complex issues like dementia. These are important skills for nurses in hospitals and residential aged care homes, given our nation’s ageing population,” A/Professor Eather said. This partnership is another example of how Ramsay and Bupa are working together to deliver better health outcomes and value for patients and residents, while supporting the next generation of nurses to grow their skill sets even further.
