MENTOR, the Municipality of Eleusis, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture and the Universities of the Aegean and Patras participate together with 10 other partners from Italy, Ireland, Spain and Belgium in the European project HeritACT. The 3-year project is implemented in the framework of #Horizon Europe and is based on the principles of #NewEuropeanBauhaus. During HeritACT, pilot participatory actions are being carried out in #Eleusis, #Milan and #Ballina. The aim is to implement innovative and inclusive design solutions, as well as cultural practices, through the participation of local communities. In Eleusis, 5 cultural heritage sites are activated, as well as the surrounding neighbourhoods: Old Soap Factory (Paleó Eleourgío), Iris, the Canteen (Anapsiktírio) at the city’s waterfront, the Eleusis Cultural Multi-site, and the outdoor space of the Oasis. New Horizons for Labrador Housing In a region where housing demand is skyrocketing and the terrain poses significant challenges, BIOSIS and UnArchitecture.ltd are collaborating on an exciting new project in Labrador, Canada! BIOSIS, a Copenhagen-based studio, specializes in “gentle low-rise multi-unit density” projects. Their innovative and ecological approach has transformed traditional housing in Denmark, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and across Scandinavia. Now, BIOSIS and UnArchitecture.ltd are conducting a feasibility study for the Nunatsiavut Government to turn overlooked and constrained sites into thriving communities using modular and prefabricated construction techniques. This approach has already unlocked over 200 housing units in Nuuk, Greenland’s fast-growing capital! At this year’s Delphi Economic Forum IX, Panayiotis (Panos) Kapetanakos, CEO of Noval Property, shared valuable insights on the transformation of modern cities through the regeneration of the urban landscape. He emphasized the importance of redeveloping old building stock and how we can redefine the relationship between the city and its residents through the upgrading of the built environment.   During the panel discussion titled "Beyond Better Cities. Collaborative Solutions for the Future", Mr. Kapetanakos stated among others: "At Noval Property we design and develop new buildings aiming to meet people's needs. Our next stop is Košice, east Slovakia, where we find the urbanist collective Spolka, changing attitudes and transforming cities. A collective of friends that now work to build genuine partnerships between architecture, urban planning, and the public, Spolka is one of the only voices in the country pushing for inclusive architecture and sustainable cities, without leaving out vulnerable groups like the working class, and the Roma people. 🚧 European project MOSAIC: A new pavement for the city of #Granada. 🚧 🚀 A few months ago, we started the European project #MOSAIC, funded by FRIEND CCI Eurocluster (SMP-COSME-2021-CLUSTER, GA. No. 101074465), under the coordination of TESELA Materiales Innovación y Patrimonio. 🎯 The project aims to redefine artistic wall and floor coverings through the innovative use of hydraulic tiles, a building material dating back to the 19th century. In doing so, we prioritize technical excellence as well as environmental sustainability. 🏛️ Moreover, the project envisions implementing this tiling as urban paving in Granada. Different symbols of the city will be considered, along with a design that contemplate the inclusion of all people and pedestrians, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. Where Bến Thành sits today was once a wetland connected with the Saigon River via the Cầu Sấu Canal, but when the colonial administration decided to fill up the waterway to make a boulevard (today’s Hàm Nghi Street), the wetland gradually turned into a still-water swamp. How did this icon of modern Saigon bloom in such adversity? From the very first discussions in 1868 regarding a new marketplace for Saigon, it was not until 1914, that Bến Thành Market became a reality. The birth of the market was like a dream come true, one that came together after nearly five decades of debate in search of solutions for the city’s infrastructure.
