Day 2 of the ProFound Summit was incredible! Denver's stunning sunsets and sunrises provided the perfect backdrop for a day filled with valuable insights, new connections, and meaningful reunions. The balance between serious discussions and lighthearted moments made the experience even more enjoyable. I was particularly inspired by Michele Kong, MD, MBA presentation on KultureCity's transformative work. Their sensory inclusive certification and first responder training are making a significant impact on the lives of neurodivergent individuals. The importance of low sensory areas and sensory bags cannot be overstated. These resources can help prevent misunderstandings and potentially dangerous situations for people with sensory sensitivities. I'm hopeful that this innovative approach will expand worldwide, especially in high-traffic areas like airports. Creating sensory-inclusive experiences is essential for everyone. We ended the day with a relaxing evening by the fire, roasting marshmallows and enjoying each other's company. When it comes to creativity, the n-fuze team thrives on a challenge! So when our favourite partners at Pink Giraffe sent us one of their #capturetheculture2024 boxes, we were all over it! The moment this creative gem arrived, it was clear it was going to be a loud day in our oasts. As we tore open the box, a cheeky giraffe emerged, leaving a trail of chaos and laughter in its wake. An inspiring day at PurposeFest in Bristol yesterday, and a great reminder of the potential businesses have to drive positive change. 💡🌱 Aside from a renewed energy after listening to the dynamic mix of speakers and spending time with such a motivational group of people, 2 key takeaways for me: 1. The concept of ‘The children’s fire 🧒🔥’ – when having discussions and making decisions, imagine your children are present and let them have a voice. They are our future after all. 2. The invaluable reminder that purpose and profit are not mutually exclusive 🚀🌳. In fact, they can be powerful allies, driving innovation, engagement, and long-term success. I'm excited to share a report that I co-authored during my time at Opportunity@Work: the Barriers & Breakthroughs Framework. What makes this report really special for me is the way in which we centered our research on the lived experience of STARs - those Skilled Through Alternative Routes other than a Bachelor's Degree - adding a critical layer of qualitative data to the rich and robust quantitative data provided by our incredible Insights team. Through the data, we identified 6 key drivers for economic mobility, illustrating what key workforce ecosystem actors - from funders and policymakers to training providers and employers - can do to ensure that these drivers work for, not against STARs. While over 4M+ STARs have "hacked the system" to achieve economic mobility, the majority of the 70M+ STARs are impeded by the stacked deck that they face. By strategically focusing on these 6 drivers, we can enable STARs to unleash their full potential.
