In Episode 22 of Business Diplomacy Today, host Matthias Catón is joined by Prof. Harold James, Professor of History and International Affairs at Princeton University. Drawing inspiration from Harold’s recent publication Seven Crashes: The Economic Crises That Shaped Globalisation (2023), Matthias and Harold discuss seven major turning points in the history of globalisation. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a lecture by Prof. Katarzyna Pisarska, a distinguished social entrepreneur, civic activist, and academic. As the Founder of the European Academy of Diplomacy in Warsaw, where I am currently studying, Prof. Pisarska provided profound insights into soft power, foreign policy, and public policy. One key takeaway: "Successful public diplomacy begins at home.” #EuropeanAcademyOfDiplomacy #SoftPower #ForeignPolicy #PublicPolicy #Leadership

Today, I had the privilege of attending an insightful event hosted by the George Mason University - Schar School of Policy and Government focusing on the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza and the strategic implications of U.S. involvement. As a student of international relations at SCHAR, I find it both heartbreaking and crucial to engage with these pressing issues. Witnessing the impact of these conflicts on countless lives underscores the importance of our studies. It’s imperative for us, as emerging scholars, to analyze these situations critically and advocate for policies that promote peace and humanitarian efforts. Understanding the complexities of global conflicts equips us to contribute meaningfully to solutions that benefit humanity. Together, we can strive for a world where diplomacy prevails over discord. #InternationalRelations #SCHARSchool #GlobalAffairs #PeaceBuilding

🤝 The white flag—simple yet powerful—has been a universal symbol of peace, truce, and surrender for centuries. From its early origins in ancient China and the Roman Empire to its recognition in international law, the white flag carries a message that resonates across cultures: even in the darkest times, dialogue is possible. Whether during historic moments like the Ottoman surrender of Jerusalem in 1917 or at countless negotiation tables worldwide, the white flag reminds us of our shared humanity. It’s a symbol that transcends conflict, calling for understanding and communication over division. At CWMUN, we believe in the power of dialogue to bridge divides. By engaging young leaders from around the world, we aim to inspire a generation that knows the value of listening, empathy, and choosing diplomacy in a complex global landscape. #WhiteFlag #Diplomacy #ChooseDialogue #CWMUN #YouthLeadership #GlobalConnections

Today I attended an insightful conference hosted by Patrick Cronin of Hudson Institute featuring a discussion with Robert D. Blackwill and Richard Fontaine about their new book, Lost Decade: The US Pivot to Asia and the Rise of Chinese Power. The conversation delved into the argument that the United States must renew its pivot to Asia while upholding commitments to Europe and the Middle East. Given the increasing instability in the international order, Blackwill and Fontaine emphasized the narrowing margin for foreign policy errors compared to a decade ago. They underscored the necessity for policymakers to grasp the original goals and shortcomings of the pivot to effectively mobilize resources, strengthen alliances, and uphold an open order in Asia and beyond. The "Pivot to Asia" was proposed during the Obama era, and it has indeed been over a decade since then. We truly need to consider the importance and urgency of this issue for current US policy towards Asia. #USForeignPolicy #AsiaPacific #Geopolitics #China #Diplomacy #HudsonInstitute

Book Review. Clash of Civilizations" by Samuel P. Huntington offers a thought-provoking analysis of global politics in the post-Cold War era. Huntington argues that conflicts will arise not primarily from ideological or economic factors, but from clashes between different civilizations and their cultural identities. Drawing on historical examples and geopolitical trends, he presents a compelling framework for understanding the complexities of international relations. While some critics challenge his thesis as overly simplistic or deterministic, the book remains influential in shaping discussions on cultural diversity, identity politics, and the future of global diplomacy. It's a must-read for anyone interested in the dynamics of contemporary world affairs Photo Credit- Daraz.
