As both a planner, and a veteran of 10 years in restaurants, Bourdain is right. With issues of inflation and affordability issues, combined with issues of the internet killing retail as well as a lot of humans desire to just generally socialize, food is one of the few things planners can rely on to help build people centric spaces. Planners in my mind should do all they can to remove nonsensical regulatory burdens for food handlers. Food trucks and carts also provide real cooked food at affordable prices. However, we need to strike a careful balance, and figure out how to transition chefs from trucks and carts to brick and mortar, because when you factor in costs for a fire suppression and grease receptacle system, and ADA bathrooms, etc., nevermind creating an actual asthetic/vibe, I don't blame a lot of chefs for just sticking to the food truck with some tables, chairs and string lights to create a vibe.

Strong! The average household spent nearly 53% of its food budget on food away from home last year, a record-high proportion and up 10 percentage points from 2003, according to the U.S. Agriculture Department’s Economic Research Service. Total restaurant sales have never been higher. They are on track to top $1.1 trillion this year, a 5.4% increase from 2023’s record-high level, according to the National Restaurant Association, an industry group.

Why are so many businesses cutting corners on appearance and upkeep? If you own a restaurant, apartments, food store, small or large hotel—and the outside is neglected with trash, weeds, unwashed entrances and surfaces, or broken fixtures and facade, then I’m left wondering about the critical stuff like food storage and prep, maintenance and cleaning priorities, pest control, and everything behind the scenes. There is a popular restaurant I walk around every morning, a place I have been wanting to patronize, but I’ll tell you, from the outside appearance, I’m never going to set foot inside and order food because it visibly shows no one cares for the establishment and I don't trust the food freshness, prep and cooking. #business #foodandbeverage #consumerbehavior #customerexperience #food #healthandsafety #success #businessandmanagement #environmentalservices #customer #consumerinsights #customers

KERB is opening a new street food market in Holborn... I'm pretty excited and immediately posted in the RE team WhatsApp that we have a new lunch spot next Wednesday. The Greenwoods Legal LLP London office is based in Holborn (although I'll always say Covent Garden if you ask...I can see it from the window!) and if you want anything other than the usual for lunch at the moment you'll struggle. So, whilst great news for those wanting more than an M&S sandwich at their desk, nothing wrong with them they have their place, I've decided to list a few pros and cons that come with street food markets. PROS 🍔 it's a great way to trial a concept before committing to bricks and mortar - property can be pricey 🤑 🍕As a place making strategy they are hard to beat...markets can create a buzz and draw footfall to an area. CONS 🍟 they can take customers away from traditional restaurants - if you've committed to bricks and mortar sites the last thing you want is a street food market taking your customers away! 🍝 they don't pay business rates so while local authorities may incur additional costs as a result of the market (think street cleaning etc) they don't get the rates revenue What's your view on street food markets - for or against? Let me know in the comments 👇 For those of you wondering I'll probably visit "It's All Gravy" #streetfood #hospitality #restaurants #landlordandtenant #assetmanagement

$25 for an Avocado toast breakfast + coffee. Why? Because of the “greedy” landlord? No. Sure, rents do factor into your output costs (the prices consumers pay). Is it because the cost to get that food delivered from distributors + gas & hydro to keep your restaurant running have skyrocketed? Absolutely!! There are reasons why restaurants run razor thin margins and have to scrape by to survive. #cdnecon #cdnpoli #smallbusiness #gtarealestate

Ellen and Don Bell, owners of the local business Baked by Bells, are proud to announce the relocation of their production site to 185 S. Washington Street in Downtown Tiffin. The move allows the company to continue its growth and introduce an expanded product line, while maintaining a presence downtown, at the Tiffin-Seneca Farmers Market and other local community markets. Ellen Bell, a Tiffin native, comes from a rich tradition of baking, inspired by her mother and grandmother, who taught home economics in the 1930s. “This move is an exciting next step for us,” said Ellen Bell. “We’re thrilled to continue sharing the baking traditions of our family with the community and to have the opportunity to expand our offerings in Downtown Tiffin.” Don Bell, Ellen’s husband and the co-owner, is most often seen at Tiffin-Seneca Farmers Market. His desire to be a part of the downtown business community has driven this move to a more convenient and centrally located kitchen. “We are proud to live in a community that supports its downtown businesses and feel lucky to be a part of it.” Baked by Bells is known for its unique and high-quality products, including freeze-dried candy, macarons, shortbreads, and specialty cookies. Customers can purchase these treats at the new location during Downtown Tiffin events, the Tiffin-Seneca Farmers Market, and three other regional markets. This Thursday, November 21st, Baked By Bells will be open to the community from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. during Downtown Tiffin’s 3rd Thursday “Holiday Window Reveal” and allow residents to visit the remodeled space. Visitors can enjoy free samples of peppermint hot cocoa and get a preview of their holiday offerings. "We are thrilled to welcome Baked by Bells to downtown Tiffin," said Mayor Wilkinson. "Don and Ellen Bell’s passion for baking and their desire to contribute to our vibrant downtown business community is truly inspiring. This is a wonderful addition to Tiffin, and we look forward to supporting Baked by Bells as they continue to grow and enrich our community."
