The Boke-Quebo road project, representing a substantial investment of US$126.8 million, aims to significantly enhance connectivity between Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, contributing to the broader Dakar-Lagos road corridor. This endeavor not only promises to streamline transportation and trade between the two nations but also to foster regional integration throughout West Africa. Focused on constructing and asphalting over 107 km of road, along with the construction and repair of multiple bridges, the project underscores a comprehensive approach to infrastructure development. Incorporating the expertise of both local and international firms, including Mali’s Cira SAS and Guinea's West Ingenierie for supervision, and entrusting construction to China Railway Seventh Group and a consortium of Mauritanian companies, underscores a collaborative model aimed at advancing this pivotal infrastructure project. With Phase 1 receiving support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the European Union, and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) funding a segment of the project, the Boke-Quebo road stands as a transformative initiative for the region, with completion targeted by December 2026. Soil Solutions can offer invaluable assistance in this transformative project by providing innovative and sustainable solutions for road construction and maintenance. Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have agreed to construct a 145-kilometer cross-border road linking Kolwezi to Lumwana in Zambia via the Kambimba-Sakabinda border posts. This infrastructure project, signed by Zambia's Infrastructure Minister Charles Milupi and DRC's Infrastructure Minister Alexis Muvunyi, aims to enhance trade, streamline the movement of goods and services, and strengthen economic ties. The project includes building a one-stop border post to facilitate efficient border operations and support Zambia’s broader infrastructure development strategy. This strategy encompasses upgrades to the Pedicle Road and a border post at Chembe on the Luapula River. On the DRC side, the road will improve access to African ports, fostering regional integration and reducing trade barriers. Key stakeholders emphasize the importance of roads for the mining sector, particularly in Lualaba Province, which holds 65% of global cobalt and copper reserves critical for electric vehicle production. With work already underway, Zambia's Sandstone Consortium Limited is constructing an 85-kilometer stretch under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The DRC’s Toha Investment Limited will complete the remaining 60 kilometers, with mobilization expected by mid-December.

Kenya and Ethiopia are set to intensify collaboration on key infrastructure projects to bolster trade and security ties between the two nations. In a recent meeting, officials from both countries outlined plans to speed up the completion of various initiatives under the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor, aiming to streamline cargo movement from Lamu to Ethiopia. Ali Mbogo, Chairman of the LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority (LCDA), along with Chief Executive Stephen Ikua, provided reassurance to traders regarding the security and unhindered movement of cargo. Mr. Mbogo stated that the LCDA has urged the Kenyan government to streamline the budget allocation for all LAPSSET components. This action aims to accelerate the implementation of critical infrastructure and enhance the attractiveness of the LAPSSET corridor as the primary route for transporting goods to and from Ethiopia and South Sudan. The LAPSSET Corridor Program is an infrastructure initiative spanning Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Sudan, aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic development in Eastern Africa. It comprises seven major projects, including the construction of a 32-berth port in Lamu, interregional highways linking Lamu to various destinations, crude oil and product oil pipelines, standard gauge railway lines, three international airports, three resort cities, and the High Grand Falls Dam along the Tana River. The move comes amid assurances from Nairobi regarding the operational readiness of the Port of Lamu, with commitments to address tariff concerns and enhance security measures along the corridor. #Kenya #Ethiopia #Lapsset #InfrastructureProjects #Trade #Security #RegionalIntegration #PortofLamu #EconomicDevelopment Image: ETHIOPIA, SOUTH SUDAN, UNECA AND NEPAD TOUR LAMU PORT | https://lnkd.in/d-GfpWtT
