I'm excited about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s vision to Make America Healthy Again and wanted to share a few thoughts on what could help. I'm a big believer in the idea that food is medicine. In addition, I think practices like fasting and fitness are foundational to health. Therefore, I prioritize being a good steward of my body to live longer and enjoy those years fully. Like most people, I take as few medications as possible, use emergency care responsibly, and spend judiciously on medical procedures. But there is a missed opportunity. While Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) cover medications and procedures like Ozempic, weight loss surgery, and blood pressure meds, they don’t cover fitness memberships, personal trainers, or diet coaching—all of which build a healthier life. What if we could provide tax incentives through the HSA framework to incentivize proactive choices and preventive wellness? It feels like a missed opportunity in our health system. I know my friends and colleagues in hospitals, rural health clinics, FQHCs, behavior health clinics, physician offices, etc., must have a ton of ideas of their own.
