What if your best-kept secret to success lies beyond your office walls? That strategy you're relying solely on internal resources to develop? It doesn't guarantee optimal success. Because they bring industry experts to the table who offer groundbreaking insights and solutions. Once you collaborate with these consultants, you'll realize that their deep industry experience teaches you invaluable lessons in efficiency, objectivity, and innovation that no internal team can fully capture. I was speaking with a client recently about a consultant they had hired and were unhappy with. In the world of business consulting, there's a myth that needs busting: the idea that consultants should sweep in, dictate changes, and ride off into the sunset. Let me tell you why this approach is not just ineffective, but unhelpful and gives consultants a bad name. 𝗔 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 Recently, I've been working with a mid-sized company of 250 employees on process improvements. Our approach? Full collaboration with the in-house team. Meanwhile, another client shared a horror story about a consultant who took the opposite route. Let's compare: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵: We're verifying our proposed changes with the team who'll implement them. We're securing buy-in at all levels of the organisation. We're clearly communicating the impact of changes across the company. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵: Changes were imposed without considering current capabilities. Resource requirements were ignored. The in-house team was left out of the decision-making process. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀: Practical, implementable solutions. A team that understands and supports the changes. Efficient use of resources. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼: An unimplementable plan. Wasted money. Widespread resentment among staff. By prioritising engagement with the in-house team, we can gain invaluable insights into the company's real-world operations, address potential resistance before it becomes a problem and ensure our solutions are both theoretically sound and practically achievable. Remember, the people who work in a company day-in and day-out know it best. As consultants, our job isn't to override that knowledge, but to enhance it with our external perspective and expertise. What's been your experience with consultants? Have you seen the stark difference between dictation and collaboration in action? Share your stories and let's continue this important conversation about the future of effective consulting. #BusinessConsulting #Collaboration #ChangeManagement #OrganizationalDevelopment

Is the answer to higher productivity and tailored People solutions hiding in plain sight with fractional experts? Navigating the complexities of People and operations demands a blend of experience and innovation. Typically, within larger organizations, roles are confined strictly to specified functions like people operations without much cross-functional exposure. In my experience, tapping into the expertise of a fractional expert who has "been there, done that" is a game-changer. These professionals bring a seasoned perspective derived from diverse environments. This means not only understanding the role but reimagining it to fit the unique needs of your business. And because they've tackled these challenges before, they're well-equipped to implement solutions swiftly and effectively. For businesses looking to evolve rapidly, the agility and broad expertise of a fractional expert can essentially leapfrog the traditional barriers posed by more rigid, role-specific approaches. This flexibility is especially crucial in today's dynamic business landscape, where adaptability can sometimes make or break a company's success. Is diversifying your approach to people and operations roles with fractional expertise the future? What experiences have you had with specialists versus fractional experts? Let's discuss! #BusinessOperations #FractionalExperts #BusinessGrowth #PeopleInnovation

Q3: Our company is growing & we are having challenges, do we need a Strategy Consultant? The short answer? "Not always." Many companies navigate growth successfully without external consultancy. However, certain circumstances may require seeking outside expertise. Here are 3 key indicators to consider: 1. Navigating New Dynamics: When encountering unfamiliar territories in the market, company scale, or team dynamics, external insights can provide invaluable clarity. 2. Alignment Deficits: If the executive team lacks cohesion, an external perspective can ensure alignment, fostering optimal performance. 3. Lack of Focus: In the face of abundant opportunities, achieving consensus within the executive ranks may prove challenging. Engaging a consultant can facilitate decision-making frameworks for selecting the right path forward. Eventually, while consultants can offer valuable support, their necessity depends on your specific organizational needs and circumstances. Nothing that, choosing the right consultant for the company is a skill that the company's top management should master over time for accelerated outcomes with efficient approaches. #StrategyFAQs
