July 8, 2024 #breakingnews! Just passed a #brushfire off Southbound 167 at the Willis Street exit in #Kent. Immediately called #911 to #report it. They told me they got other #reports about it and the #firedepartment has been notified. Luckily, the nearest #firestation is extremely close by! It’s #Firestation71. I first saw black #smoke, which immediately caught my attention. When I got closer, I saw the #flames. Also contacted #local #mediaoutlets and #tvstations to inform them. Maybe they already knew but perhaps not. But I did think it was a #story they might be interested in and want to report on during their #broadcasts. #homeless people do stay in that area but I didn’t see any traces of #stuff nor any #people. The fire wasn’t huge but with our roughly 95 degree #temperature in this #heatwave and #vegetation being so dry, the fire could easily spread and grow! And my #dashcam may have caught it but I haven’t checked it yet. So here’s my #newsreport and another #gooddeed for the day. As someone who grew up on a diet of ABC TV it’s such an exciting milestone to see our show alongside such incredible titles...what a joy! In HOMESPUN I wanted to create something that went against the grain - no boy meets girl bush romance, none of the overdone tropes and caricatures we see time and time again. I wanted it to be fast paced, dynamic, different – a show that respected the audience by encouraging them to join the dots in a format that is atypical, non-sequential, unconventional. Given structure is often so set in stone we knew this would be confronting, and we were deliberate in wanting to give audiences agency. Our intent was to relinquish the desire to control the audience’s interpretation and let them make sense of the world in a way that is meaningful to them...meaningful to you. In this age of mindless scrolling, digital overload, content clutter we want you to have to do a little bit of work in your navigation of the story when you step into the world. In HOMESPUN, beautiful artistic animations are threaded through out and there are so many little gems of meaning that have been meticulously planted for people to find as they frolic through the experience. The desire to make something out of the box influenced how we made HOMESPUN – we chased creative freedom so that we could forge a refreshed way of looking at the regions. It’s not perfect. It’s a like a jar of homemade jam. It’s not a mass market, preservative laden, factory generated, off-the-shelf sugary sales winner. It’s rustic and chunky, slightly tart, and slightly sweet but it’s made from a bespoke handwritten recipe and it’s laden with love. We made it like this so you can see the possibilities – where we can go to with these kinds of stories…the people you can meet, the ideas you can explore, the music you can enjoy, the places, faces and stories that we could expand on if we were trusted to dial them up with the kind of support that could help the recipe be replicated. Just like jam, it’s not for everyone…we made if for regional Australians who routinely get the p*ss taken but who never get to take the p*ss themselves. We hope you enjoy our labour of love!

Fascinating series and so topical! These are very real stories and very challenging decisions.

For my older daughter's entire life, I've talked about "Huntley-Brinkley'ing" acquisition briefings, and I just found out last night that she had no idea what I meant. Funny how time rolls on, and new terminology pops up, and old terminology dies out and you don't realize it. Pop culture is like a private, unspoken language. I first started using the term when I was an intern and all the acquisition experts were older than I was and had been present for the Huntley-Brinkley news-team from 1956 to 1970. I knew who they were because I was in elementary school during their last episode, and watching the nightly news was a big deal in our house when I was a child, especially because my big brothers were draft-age and their friends weren't coming home from Vietnam. (Let me know if I need to explain the concern.) Those were the days of Walter Cronkite, Chet Huntley, and David Brinkley. Huntley and Brinkley were dual anchors, said goodnight to each other at the end of the show, and just ... CLASSY ... presenters. They were great role models for why I, ten years later, declared a journalism major, about a year before the beginning of 24-hours news and an opinion-based, advertising-based journalism model. For laughs, I'm linking their last episode, which shows their rival at CBS saying goodbye to the NBC team (the 2 big networks then, and 2 of maybe 3 channels you could get on your newfangled color TVs that weighed 500 pounds). So when you hear a boomer or older GenXer talking about Huntley-Brinkley'ing an acquisition briefing, they simply mean they're going to trade-off parts of the briefing with a PM, Contracting Officer, etc, in a very classy and informed way. #acquisition #contracting #procurement #genX #boomer #LornaTheHumanArchive #journalism https://lnkd.in/eB2ukXPH
