Let's take a look at a plant that's really having a moment in the houseplant world right now: Monstera deliciosa! Yes, I have chosen to humble myself and feature one of my plants that's looking rather haggard right now. This is a plant recovering from a serious scale infestation. They're gone after rigorous treatment with a powerful systemic insecticide, but Jungle Princess (yes, more Adventure Time) has a way to go before she's back to her full glory (there are a few fresh, healthy leaves about to unfurl, though!). But I feel it's important to show this, because it speaks to this plant's astounding resilience. As is typical when a plant is very popular, there's a phenomenon I've noticed where folks think it must be hard to care for. Surely your average Joe couldn't maintain such a beauty, right? Wrong! I will absolutely recommend this plant to my less experienced customers! Its care is super easy, to be honest. Moderate water needs, and it's very forgiving if you don't get it quite right all the time, it tolerates nearly any light level short of keeping it in a closet, and it's easy to train onto a frame to keep it from crawling across the floor. Jungle Princess has girthy vines just over 1" in diameter and is fixed to a rebar frame I built her. Anything sturdy will work, really. The only warning honestly is the size. But feel free to trim back and rearrange! They don't mind at all. Open your home to a M. deliciosa today! #MonsteraDeliciosa #Houseplants #Tropicals #PlantDiseases #GetYouOne

Understanding the Buttonwood Tree Buttonwood is a small tree or shrub that grows low to the ground and has tough, salt-resistant leaves. Its branches spread out in an uneven shape, and its trunk becomes twisted and gnarled if it's exposed to strong winds for a long time. Buttonwood produces flowers and fruit all year round. The flowers are small, white, and grow in bunches, while the reddish-brown fruit looks like old leather buttons—this is how the plant got its name. People often mistake Buttonwood for mangroves because both grow near the coast. However, they are different when it comes to how they reproduce. Buttonwood grows from seeds, while true mangroves use propagules—baby plants that start growing while still attached to the parent tree. #imagovtt #mangrove #buttontree #coastalecosystems

Coleus is a member of the mint family, Lamiaceae. Like other members of the mint family, it has square stems and opposite leaves. This plant is native to the tropics of Asia but grows well in just about any environment. Unlike most annuals, coleus cultivars are grown for their foliage, not their flowers. They have a wide variety of leaf shapes, sizes and colors. Coleus plants were once very popular in Victorian-era gardens but are now making a comeback as new cultivars are being developed not only for new foliage patterns but also for different growing conditions. Historically, Coleus were shade-loving plants and would not tolerate full sun but some new cultivars are sun tolerant. Plants grow between 6 and 36 inches tall and often nearly as wide as they are tall. Various combinations of green, yellow, pink, red and maroon are common foliage colors.
