Here's a tip if you're treating a golfer.. Have you checked your client's thoracic ROM? Lack of mobility and range of motion will do a couple of things: 1- if impedes the back swing, where you either stop early or compensate with your hips to go back further (...this is where they end up overcorrecting with the hips on the downswing, and hit a hookshot.) 2- your client might experience more swings off balance or hit chunks out of the ground. Lack of range of motion means they're going to be TRYING harder, and swinging harder. A factor for low back discomfort among golfers is mid-back (thoracic spine) tightness, which often results in a recruitment of the lower back (lumbar spine) during the golf swing. Instrumented treadmills are integral to studying human locomotion in performance labs. Traditionally, these treadmills have been used exclusively for smooth (even) walking experiments. However, recognizing the need to study more complex walking patterns, we undertook the task of modifying the Kuo Lab's treadmill to accommodate uneven walking experiments.
