How do you make sure to keep forward thinking and acting every day at work? Among C&A’s five core values, this is probably the most debated one. In December, we will look at projects and approaches that show how we bring this value to life. However, everyone is driving this value every day by following the paths of our founders and having the courage to test something new & learn from it. And then apply it again and again and perfect it. We are an always-on learning community dedicated to innovating our business and the industry. The founders, Clemens & August Brenninkmeijer were mediocre retailers, comparable to H. Brenninkmeijer & Zonen and G. Brenninkmeijer & Co. The key was the insight Clemen's son Bernard Joseph had: You could make more buying and selling at a 25% margin than a 50% margin. So a coat you bought for EUR 7,50 would cost EUR 9,99 instead of EUR 15,- . This was theoretically impossible because the expenses (rent, salaries, energy, overhead) before 1906 were around 40% of sales. How this works in practice based on counting money instead of comparing margins has been described in this white paper written by a number C&A colleagues: www.profitperx.com This ties into the C&A snowball system and "C&A is tòch voordeliger!" and the C&A Mission Statement which states: "Best value is the foundation of C&A's business (since 1906). Best value built C&A and must be the area where C&A is not beaten or undersold by any competitor. Value does not mean low price ...etc" Do you have a copy of the mission statement at C&A?
