Excited to share our (together with Lieselot De Wilde) latest article in Child & Family Social Work. Our study explores shared parenthood in long-term foster care placements, delving into the perspectives of both parents and foster carers. 💡By uncovering both facilitating and hindering factors, we shed light on the complex dynamics of shared parenting. We emphasize the importance of recognizing and (continuously) discussing the normative conceptions of shared parenting to enable its successful implementation. 📄 Curious to dive into the full article and discover the nuanced strategies for navigating shared parenting in long-term foster care? ➡ https://lnkd.in/dXZZbRYj

When children in foster care are placed with relatives or close family friends, the impact can be profound. Familiar surroundings offer them emotional stability, forming a stronger foundation for their future success. Kinship care ensures a child remains connected to their community and cultural roots, enhancing their overall sense of belonging and wellbeing. Caregivers—whether kinship or otherwise—play an essential role in nurturing and supporting children. But sustaining that care requires looking after your own wellbeing too. This #NationalKinshipCareMonth, we celebrate your dedication to child wellbeing and offer resources to help you prioritize your self-care: https://bit.ly/4gFDtUT #ChildWellbeing #KinshipCareMonth #KinshipCare

FOSTER FRIDAY As a foster parent, taking care of yourself is just as important as caring for the children in your home. A self-care jar is a simple yet powerful tool to remind you to prioritize your well-being. How to Create a Self-Care Jar: 1. Find a Jar: Any jar or container will do! 2. Write Self-Care Ideas: On slips of paper, write down different self-care activities. These can be as simple as taking a walk, reading a book, enjoying a warm bath, or even taking a few minutes to meditate. 3. Pull a Slip Daily: Each day, pull a slip from the jar and make time for that activity. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Prioritizing self-care helps you stay strong and supportive for your foster children. 💪💖 Share your self-care ideas in the comments below! 👇 📲 call 855.830.5062 #FosterFriday #StrongerFamiliesTogether #SupportSDFosterCare #SouthDakotaFosterCare #FosterCareSD #SupportSDKids #SDKidsNeedYou #BeAFosterParent #ChangingLivesSD

It's simple: Fear keeps most people from taking a teen into their home. It is also true that many foster parents will soften up their resistance once they have had a teen in their home as a respite, and a few will shift to having teen placements. After our 30 years in foster care recruitment, we believe that respite is one of the best strategies for increasing capacity that won’t cost you money. Reflecting on Foster Care Appreciation Month and our recent Administrative Review Hearing, I'm reminded of the emotional challenges foster parents face. These reviews evaluate various aspects of a child's care, highlighting successes and areas for improvement, which can be intense and daunting. As foster parents, we invest deeply in our children's well-being, experiencing a range of emotions from anxiety to self-doubt. However, leaning on our faith provides comfort and resilience. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us of God's unwavering support during difficult times. Prayer becomes our tool for finding peace, wisdom, and strength amidst challenges. Trusting in God's plan helps us navigate the complexities of foster care, staying committed to making a positive impact. #FosterCareAwareness #FaithAndResilience

Now that we understand the reintegration process, let's explore the alternative care options available: Kinship Care: Family members provide care. Adoption: A permanent family placement. Guardianship: A legal appointment of a guardian. Foster Care: Temporary care provided by a foster family. Child-Headed Households: Children take on parental roles. Kafala: Islamic foster care system. These options ensure children grow in loving homes, form lifelong attachments, and receive personalized care. Which care option are you familiar with?

While many hope to Foster or Adopt infants, they represent merely a small portion of children in the Foster Care System. 💭 Often, these babies reunify with their Biological Families more quickly than other age groups, attributable to the primary goal of Foster Care being safe reunification. 💛 For this reason, when families look to Adopt infants, they may experience a more challenging process due to lengthier or extended waiting periods. 🙏 #LoftusVergariAndAssociates #LVA #Myths #FosterCareAwareness #AdoptionSupport

7moWat hierin stoort, is het kindbeeld als bezit. Macht en recht op. Als het kind zelf niet aan bod komt. Zo vergelijkbaar met vechtscheidingen. Met het verschil dat er een overheid continu toekijkt.
