Visionaries like Vitalik Buterin, Charles Hoskinson (Cardano Foundation) and Mihai Alisie gathered to reflect on how Ethereum has reshaped industries, disrupted financial systems, and created new pathways for innovation. MICA, ETHEREUM, AND THE FUTURE OF BLOCKCHAIN: EUROPE’S MOMENT TO LEAD THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION At the CV Summit 2024, I had the honor of participating in a crucial panel, “European Landscape on Regulation - The Implications of MiCA for Centralized Exchanges,” moderated by Marina Khaustova (COO of Crystal Intelligence). Alongside Guido Buehler and Cristiano Ventricelli (Vice President - Digital Economy at Moody's Ratings), we explored how the #MiCA (Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation) is setting the stage for Europe to take the lead in the global digital economy. MiCA is offering the legal clarity that the crypto world needs, allowing centralized exchanges like LCX to innovate and scale while adhering to strict regulatory frameworks. Special recognition goes to Mathias Ruch of CV VC and Benedek Orban of CV Labs for hosting this incredible event, where global leaders gathered to discuss the future of blockchain, Web3, and tokenization. For the #web3Sunday edition No 2, this week, what draw my attention was the "beef" going on between the CEO of Wintermute Mr. Gaevoy, Vitalik and Hayden. “You are either building capitalism or planned socialism. I’m sorry, you really can’t have both.”, this is what Gaevoy said in his recent X (Twitter) post to Hayden (and Vitalik I suppose). You can argue that the design of Ethereum is broken. That the Ethereum Virtual Machine has so many flaws that ETH foundation is trying to clean up the mess from within with soft-forks after soft-forks. That the fact that Maximum Extractable Value is still an issue makes ETH look a much worse option than TradFi. Even FinTech like Nubank is better at this stage. ETH actually besides its façade of being the frontrunner in bringing programmability in the blockchain with its smart contracts (albeit the numerous flaws), it still fights to redesign, redeploy, and restructure its whole codebase. It's worse than this for many reasons, but if you want we can exchange opinions on this in the comments. Gaevoy chooses capitalism, and I get it why. He sees that in the end, blockchain by default has capitalism ingrained in, hence few are willing to see this, accept it and move forward. The whole incentivization of users, traders and devs is driven by $ return, which obviously it is not surprising, it is something inherent and sensible. People use their time to maximize value and by value in this case we mean monetary value. Unfortunately (or fortunately for many) this is how it works. Our hindbrain is getting easily attached to "numba goin' up up up"! A deterministic goal for blockchain and the future of the web3 self-custodial banking ecosystem is to find the middle ground, where those enjoying being part of this environment will: - Appreciate what this technology can offer in terms of independent. - Not only get attached to numba goin' up, but also to embracing this technology for solving societal issues. - Acknowledge that aping and memecoinery is a benign (or malignant - depends how you see it) digital web3 tumour that drains liquidity from projects having PMF. I can't deny that I enjoy seeing those forerunners at the frontline of web3 innovation having these ideological disputes about the value (humanitarian, philosophical or monetary one) of ETH, and eventually of what blockchain networks can or can't be or transform into. Vitalik, Hayden and Gaevoy have their own personal agenda. Don't forget that they are all, like us, humans and their intrinsic motives change in an instant depending on what narratives sell the most, or are more appealing to their audience. Reading between the lines is what matters, and actually is the most difficult part. We are complex, humans and consequentially manipulatable by inserted bias that stems from our upbringing, entourage, education, working background etc. ETH will survive the headwinds (ETFs will help), but at what ethical cost?

It stands as a testament to what a solid community and speculative interest can achieve, securing its spot as the third-largest dog token. It went on to become the first meme coin to hit $1 in 3 months. Impact of the price surge The remarkable ascent of Dogwifhat (WIF) is not solely about its anonymous creation, It's also about the stunning financial transformations it has enabled. Case in point from Arkham: "onchainclown's", a trader whose strategic moves turned an investment of 102 SOL (around $6,000) into a staggering $2 million. This 33,000% return on investment, coinciding with WIF's valuation soaring past the $1 billion threshold, suggests more than mere financial acumen. It implies a deep understanding, perhaps an insider perspective, on the volatile meme coin market. Moreover, WIF's appeal was significantly amplified following its listing on Robinhood's European platform, which saw its value spike by 27% in just 24 hours. Widespread adoption  These subtle developments are indicating a potential shift in the market dynamics of altcoins, as an increasing number of cryptocurrencies are beginning to mirror Bitcoin’s bullish momentum. The coin’s value has been positively impacted by leading cryptocurrency exchanges that have decided to introduce trading services with it lately. Events season is clearly well underway! We thought we'd share quick overview of what we and our Policy Lead, Jannah Patchay, were involved with last week! We'd like to thank Polygon Labs, Solana Foundation, DeFi Education Fund, NEAR Foundation, and more specifically, Rebecca Rettig, for inviting us to speak at their 'UK Crypto Policy Bootcamp'. We were honoured to join a fantastic panel of experts, including Isabella Chase, Brian Quintenz, and Nathan Catania, with moderation by Miller Whitehouse-Levine. The conversation delved into the key policy themes influencing the UK's #cryptoasset environment. Topics of discussion spanned #financialcrime regulation, #financialpromotions, and the evolution of #stablecoin regulation, providing insights into what actions the #UK must undertake to maintain or enhance its appeal as a hub for #cryptoassets. We were also invited to join a panel discussion at the Stablecoin Standard x Chainlink Labs event. The panel, which was shared with Benjamin Santos-Stephens, Eva Gartner, Erin Kelly, and Kaushik Sthankiya, moderated by our very own Helen Disney, focused on "Exploring Next-Generation Stablecoin Use Cases." Interestingly, the seating arrangement split us into Team Retail and Team Wholesale, adding a unique dynamic to our discussion. We shared insights on the diverse applications of #stablecoins, including their role in collateralisation, the concept of interest-bearing stablecoins, and their potential to facilitate more efficient value transfers for various applications. On reflection of the discussion, Helen Disney expressed that "stablecoins are foundational tokenised assets which will play pivotal role in the future tokenised economy. Many use cases for stablecoins already exist - be they in #remittances, #gaming, trade #finance or #DeFi. But we are only touching the tip of the iceberg of how stablecoins may be used once we have #tokenised #securities and real-world assets. The huge evolution in crypto regulation worldwide is helping to accelerate stablecoin adoption but it is still in a very early stage. There is still more work to be done on regulatory frameworks and on market infrastructure before stablecoins can realise their true potential". It was also a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Ramy S. and Nick Philpott and to be introduced to Marlene B.. Our thanks for including us in this enlightening session. WOW yesterday! I've been on stages talking about asset tokenization for years, but the environment and adoption rate have shifted dramatically. This is driven by industry players recognizing the tremendous benefits. Speaking of benefits, my conversation onstage with Minny Siu 萧乃瑩 / King & Wood Mallesons, Marco Staglianò / Another-1 and the great Hanis Harmiles / Reinvent DAO was insightful for me. One point I’d like to highlight from the talk: WHY is blockchain now also adopted by large institutions? It’s all about bringing efficiency to the crazy complex processes in alternative assets. 🤯 Show me a person working in alternative assets, I show you a person that hates the processes they have to follow. They’re outdated and cumbersome. Their core purpose – essentially to maintain ownership records and asset details – relies on siloed, slow, outdated systems of record. If you reason from first principle, our systems of record in assets follow very long change cycles. 🗣 Since time immemorial: Transactions were agreed upon verbally. Not great for legal enforceability. 🧱 5,000 Years Ago, Mesopotamia: Clay tablets became the record-keeping system. We started writing things down to have more reliable records. 📜 800 Years Ago, in places like the great trade republic of Genoa: Paper took hold, recording what was on which ship on who owned it. (notabene: China did this even earlier) 💻 50 Years Ago, US: Computers and electronic trading started to arrive. NASDAQ, Quotrons, all that. 🕰 Nothing since then. BUT 🔗 2008: the Bitcoin Whitepaper, a genesis moment. Blockchain offered a new system of record, ultimately for all assets. This is where asset tokenization comes in. Companies like my very own EVIDENT are using a blockchain-powered standardized data layer across the entire asset lifecycle.
