In recent years, concerns about the quality of doctoral research in India have intensified, especially as cases of substandard dissertations and retracted research papers gain attention. Dinesh Singh, in his thought-provoking article "The Curious Case of Doctoral Theses," highlights the systemic issues undermining our academic standards, from inadequate peer review to dissertations filled with basic errors. Despite ongoing efforts by bodies like the UGC and CSIR, the quality of doctoral work often falls short, raising questions about the academic rigor in our institutions. As we strive to foster a robust research culture, it becomes imperative to address these gaps and ensure our doctoral programs uphold the highest standards.
