Is this the customer service we should be accepting in 2024? I will clarify this by saying that I have been flying with American Airlines for 23 years and have flown 1.9 million miles. I have had a few customer service issues with them (maybe 1 every 2 years at the most), and they have been accommodating. In February, I was flying to London with my wife. Our flight, which was due to leave at 5:30 p.m., was delayed and eventually canceled at 9:30 p.m. There were no flights out until the following day. Due to the delay, I had to cancel my hotel (I was charged for a night due to a less-than-24-hour cancellation) and missed a number of meetings. I reached out to American in February and asked that someone contact me to discuss the issues and find out how to reimburse my lost hotel night ($250). I was asked to send over the details of my hotel stay, which I did. There was no response three weeks later, so I had to start my issue again. 4-11-24: I finally received a response stating that they would not reimburse me because "Personal hotel reservations are not expenses that we reimburse" (after somebody else already asked me to send over details so they could reimburse me) and since they had already given me 12,500 miles, they felt that we were good. Does customer service in 2024 mean that a company: 1. Ignore the customer for months in hopes that they forget and you don't have to pay. 2. Tell you they will not pay you for a night's hotel when the flight was canceled due to mechanical and flight crew running out of hours. 3. Make you think that everything is OK by giving you 12,500 miles (basically, I am paying $250 for the miles) Is this customer service that we should accept in 2024? I am already expecting that this is going to be blamed on short staffing and/or lack of training. Please post your comments and also like and repost for maximum reach. They need to know there is a problem, and unfortunately, social media is the only thing that works (I tried twice going through their normal channels).
