At Quantum Science, we were delighted to see presentations on Pb-free quantum dot image sensor technology from Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation, IMEC, and AMS-Osram at the 70th Annual IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting held in San Francisco (41 | ODI | Advanced Image Sensors - IEEE IEDM 2024) on Wednesday 11 December. Quantum Science is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder as a leader in this field having demonstrated industry leading Pb-free quantum dot photodiode device performance with a SWIR peak wavelength in the critical region of 1360–1400nm. These device results are produced using a lead-free ink system that is directly deposited onto substrates in a single thick film without the need for additional ligand exchange processes. As described in our recent blog, advancing across the three critical technology areas of Pb-free QD synthesis, QD ink formulation, and Pb-free device stack design has resulted in 1,400 SWIR peak EQE at -1V of 16% and a dark current <10µA/cm2 at the operating voltage: https://lnkd.in/dkvSxicT We are excited to see this technology advance further to commercial products in the consumer and machine vision imaging markets! Hearing from both CEOs, Anirudh Devgan and Jensen Huang, talking about GPU accelerated computing on CFD and its applications in Reality DC Digital Twin simulations at last month's CadenceLIVE event was a very rewarding experience for me personally. This is because our R&D teams are right in the center of all the actions. Not only our NVIDIA GPU-equipped Millennium supercomputer accelerates such simulations, but also NVDIA uses our Reality DC Digital Twin to help model its latest AI supercomputer and has since facilitated the use of this software within the NVIDIA Omniverse environment. The software uses physics-based simulation, powered by CFD, to model complex thermals and cooling. A few days ago I also read a very interesting blog published by NVIDIA's Dion Harris, in which he writes, "With Blackwell GPUs, these simulations are projected to run up to 30x faster than with CPUs, offering accelerated timelines and higher energy efficiency"! Yes, 30X!! This blog is available on nvidia.com at: https://lnkd.in/dff2vBWR. Enjoy reading it 😀

AI at the Embedded World: A glimpse into the Future? 🚀 This week I had the chance to join the embedded world Exhibition&Conference. Among other interesting insights I gained, it has once again proven that AI is the ultimate hype topic - also in the realm of Edge! NVIDIA stood out particularly with its Jetson Orin GPUs, which were utilized by many hardware manufacturers. Hailo also showcased a strong presence with their Edge AI processors and accelerators, which we already have in use with our Edge solutions here at Welotec. But also the major CPU manufacturers AMD and Intel Corporation had a significant focus on AI at the Edge. It's interesting that the use of AI (or rather the use of dedicated GPUs for AI applications at the Edge) is currently primarily found in video processing. However, the knowledge of how to effectively utilize AI is often lacking – both on the customer side and among the hardware manufacturers. Expectations on real life implications often remain vague. Here, the automotive sector seems to be a step ahead of other industries, such as machinery. To really use AI productively, a clear strategy and focus on specific use cases are essential. For instance, partnerships between hardware and software providers can be an important step. Otherwise, based on what I've heard, it often remains just a buzzword. What are your thoughts on the subject? What experiences have you had with AI at the Edge? Share your insights! And a special invitation to all software providers and system integrators in the Edge AI space - if you are still looking for a strong partner, feel free to reach out 🤖 #ai #embeddedworld #technology #innovation #productmanagement #edgecomputing
