New allegations of price-fixing present real questions about popular narratives on inflation. For the longest time we were told that rising wages and government stimulus payments were going to be the primary drivers of inflation - the cure of which was to keep interest rates high to drive up unemployment which would then cool inflation. As more evidence and analysis has come forward we see that close to 60% of inflation in 2021 was the results of price gouging (a.k.a. "greedflation"). Now we see new evidence and allegations that in the oil markets there was collusion to hike gas prices, and that those hikes may have resulted in 27% of all inflation increases in 2021 and cost American families close to $3,000 last year. Kudos to Matt Stoller for a great write up on this. How this is not a bigger story is beyond me. #inflation #economy #pricefixing #FTC #monopoly #greedflation #gasprices

TRUTH ABOUT THE "GREAT INFLATION" WATCH THIS EXCELLENT video to dispel all the disinformation floating around about what happened in the 1970s. Once and always, a monetary phenomenon: * Philipps Curve * Creation of the FRB "dual mandate" * relationship between inflation and unemployment * collapse of Bretton Woods (which was, from the start, flawed in design) USD AS RESERVE CCY was "too successful" outstripping Au reserves, so the link had to be severed. Reckless gov spending (Vietnam + Great Society social) were key factors, just as entitlement programs are today. #oilembargo #nixon #greatsociety #war #debt #iran #oil #FRB

BIG OIL AND THE BIG SLICK: While folks like to blame inflation on the federal government and COVID, some of which is true, because we had to take of families (there was no choice), somewhere between 25%-50% of inflation was baked in by Big Oil greed. Read more at https://lnkd.in/dm3TZY5y
