Is there something happening on Sunday? 👀⚽ I guess whether you're a keen football enthusiast or just generally capture the highlights on the news, we are all aware that people will be gearing up ready for England's attempt at Euro glory on Sunday. Many business owners might face a potential wave of Monday morning “illnesses”, and be questioning... how do I handle last-minute holiday requests? What will i do if employees are absent on Monday? Here are some useful tips: 📑 Ensure employees are aware of your existing holiday policy and the process to allow them to make their requests in good time. 🙋♀️ Stick to a first-come, first-served basis to maintain fairness. Tensions in the workplace can arise when employees attempt to book time off for the same sporting event. Implementing a fair process for handling such requests can help prevent further issues. 👍 You may want to consider allowing more leave than usual or an early finish, with measures to minimise business impact. 🤒 If an employee who was declined leave calls in sick, you should remind them of the consequences of unauthorised absences. Refer to your sickness procedure and investigate any breaches impartially, not all absences may be football-related. If you don't already have a holiday policy and/or procedure, or find yourself with 'empty desks' Monday morning and unsure what next steps to take, get in touch! Natalie Ellis Chartered FCIPD and I can help you put the right processes in place. 📣 Government Could Save £21m by Allowing Four-Day Week Groundbreaking research by the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union shows that the government could save an estimated £21.4 million annually by shifting to a four-day week for civil servants. 📉 The findings suggest that reduced staff turnover and decreased sickness absence could lead to significant savings. Imagine this: cutting sick leave from 4.3 days to just 1.5 days per year! That's the equivalent of gaining 328 extra workers. Additionally, a 57% drop in staff turnover could mean hiring 2,345 new employees. 🤯 All this without the need for extra budgets. Are we on the brink of a transformative change? Joe Ryle, director of the 4 Day Week Campaign, believes so. He states that a four-day week is a "win-win" for both employees and employers. So, why not start with Defra and see the magic unfold? Let's discuss. Could a four-day week work in the private sector too? 🤔 Share your thoughts in the comments! #FourDayWeek #WorkLifeBalance #UKGovernment

Creating a welcoming holiday season at work means paying attention to both celebrations and time-off policies. To make everyone feel included, consider planning holiday events with a winter theme, keeping attendance optional, and using neutral decorations in common areas. A clear, first-come, first-served policy regarding time-off requests can help prevent conflicts and ensure fairness. #HumanResources #TalentManagement #PTO https://lnkd.in/dGF3aQVA
