I always love running into another member of the Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) family. Earlier today at LearnSkin's 7th Annual Integrative Dermatology Symposium in Arlington, TX, I met Pam Dixon, an Ultra Rare Disease Consultant at BI (shout out to her counterpart in my neck of the woods, Louise Crowley!). I know Pam is on LinkedIn, but I can't seem to tag her. Perhaps a friend will do so in the comments. Like so many others currently or formerly at BI (shout out Chris Wahlers, Manuel Quaresma, Sarah Lorenzen, PhD, Susan Laney, Doug Zuchnik!), Pam was gracious, enthusiastic, and whip smart. Post-congress reflections of a former CRA 💭 This week I’ve attended the biggest dermatology and vererology congress in Europe. I rarely get into the discussion about the ethics of our industry and of the big pharmas. But today, as I’m about to board my flight back home, here’s some reflections. We often call the big Pharma "the big evil" 😈 While you must remember a private pharma is still a company (ende a business with intent to be profitable), most of the innovation and healthcare research worldwide is private. 🔬 Which means, we need the private sector to research to learn about diseases and get new treatments to the market. 💊💉 Having been today in a majorly commercial congress (derma products for commercial use), I was reminded of how much better (yes, BETTER) clinical research niche is. More regulated, stricter, more compliance intent, more human-focused, more purpose-driven, better. Yes, better. ✅ To me, we serve a much greater purpose. Happy to be part of the clinical research industry. 🌸

Annual report – Ground Hog Day for the Comms function? Some projects in Communications can feel a little like “Ground Hog Day” – take the company annual report for example, which is always a significant amount of work that shows up in our calendars at the same time of the year - like clockwork (you know what I mean, Comms people!). For such a significant amount of work it is crucial to ensure the end product is right for the purpose it was intended for. I am sure anybody who has ploughed their way through traditional annual reports knows how much detail they include and how time-intensive it can be to digest them. At Almirall we have recently taken a different approach to providing an overview of our business year creating the “Year in Review”. It´s a much shorter and more visual document that includes the key information about the company and our business, but is easier to digest and more in line with how we all manage information today (check it out in the below link). It´s great to have the support and encouragement of Carlos Gallardo to create company materials that are meaningful and utilize up-to-date formats. It´s certainly an example that gets me excited about how we at Almirall are getting ready for the future as a leader in medical dermatology. #WeAreAlmirall
