This is a discussion that is being had across the country. Recent changes in addressing unlawful camping highlight the need for balance between police and code enforcement duties. Both groups must collaborate to assist the unhoused effectively. Johnson vs Grants Pass has definitely changed the landscape. Police bring crisis management skills along with safety elements, while code enforcement offers regulatory expertise. This partnership requires empathy, understanding the complex issues behind homelessness. The focus should be on creating a compassionate approach that upholds laws while providing pathways to long-term solutions. Training in de-escalation and social services is also crucial for code officials undertaking this work. By working together, these groups can address community concerns while supporting those in need, fostering a more comprehensive and humane response to homelessness. It's going to be a process but many jurisdictions have done it in the past and had much success pre Martin vs Boise. #codeenforcement 4LEAF, Inc.

DYK, Mutual Housing residents are linked with #affordablehousing advocacy opportunities both locally and statewide? Results from a consumer survey by NeighborWorks America, highlight the disconnect many are feeling with policymakers, with 75% feeling left out of the #affordablehousing conversation. In the spirit of #neighborworksweek, we’re celebrating the opportunities for connection we have successfully made this year between residents and State Legislators, California Housing and Community Development Department leaders, the State Treasurer, Sacramento Mayor, and other local elected officials. As residents are able to share their lived experiences, they are able to provide keen insights for decision makers and help to inform their policy choices surrounding severe housing shortage challenges. https://lnkd.in/giN72QwX

We hold closely to the belief that we can all learn from each other, regardless of status, race, or social position. Through taking time to build relationships that move beyond the traditional helper-helpee dynamic, we seek to restore dignity to people who live in now-struggling communities. The experts in a community are those who are living there, taking part in the life of the neighborhood every single day. We want to serve alongside those experts, empowering them to lead the way in bringing about lasting change and through creating access to opportunities for education or employment. Our vision is that people live in neighborhoods full of opportunity, know and serve their neighbors, and are invited into gospel-centered community. Our goals are to develop people and communities holistically, empower impoverished and underserved people to grow and develop in all aspects of their lives, and work alongside individuals to inspire and develop indigenous leadership. Have you ever been searching for restroom for more than an hour in California? Public urination is a $400 fine. And you can be register as a sex offender if you had urinated by a school. Since the cost of living is so high in California we have a massive homeless population. Since there is a massive homeless population in Los Angeles and San Francisco most businesses have locked 🔒🔐 their public bathrooms for everyone even paying customers. So the bathrooms you do find are literally 3rd world sewer systems. So doing business in this state is not favorable anymore and it shows because of the massive commerical vacancy rates. Most companies are moving to #Texas #Nevada #Idaho #Utah #Colorado. If California cities invest into public infrastructure projects it will make the state more desirable to actually stay here. #ebitda #sanfrancisco #memes #siliconvalley #infographics #sandiego

We are making a difference in #Baltimore City by investing in sustainable and affordable housing solutions. WaterBottle is a #workerownedcooperative that purchases, renovates and then rents high quality, affordable housing for residents in West Baltimore. WaterBottle is the parent company to Appalachian Field Services (home renovation and maintenance) and Rising Housing (Property Management). We are a solution to Baltimore City’s vacant housing problem. Vacant housing directly impacts development, crime, and community health. Our mission is to empower under-served communities by providing safe and Eco-friendly housing options while promoting #cooperative community ownership and management. The Baltimore City government owns only 10% of the vacant housing in the city. The rest are privately owned. The city has nearly 15,000 vacant homes and nearly nine out of 10 of them are located in areas with high concentrations of both vacancy and poverty. 8 in 10 vacant properties have been abandoned for decades and are effectively no longer part of the local housing market. These properties are concentrated in East Baltimore, West Baltimore, and Park Heights, where they perpetuate population decline and desperate living conditions. They also cost the city over $200 million dollars every year in mitigation costs and lost revenues.
